Job Description - Medical Assistant - MA - Positive Work Culture

Position Description: POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Clinical Services Manager, the Patient Specialist is responsible for providing patient care services and administrative support to the Epilepsy Clinic. The position entails maintaining liaison with other clinics and departments and agencies. Extensive travel is required, and Spanish-speaking skills are required.
MAJOR JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Patient Specialist performs a wide range of duties including, but not limited to:
Assist the Clinical Services Manager and clinic staff with delivering and coordinating care for all epilepsy clinic patients.
Required to make frequent decisions with significant importance concerning the operation of the Clinic and corresponding patient care.
Attends outreach clinics and coordinates logistics with other clinic staff for clinic day activities
Provides patient education and instructions after each clinic visit and as needed.
Provides documentation and collection of subjective patient data.
Participates in patient care activities including triage, patient assistance programs, and scheduling testing
Completes clinic activities such as medication refills, medical records requests, patient forms with other clinic staff.
Participates in staff meetings, post-clinic reviews, and trainings.
Enters data into patient database.
Assists with the coordination of travel arrangements for each clinic location.
Process new patient applications.
Gathers patient symptoms via triage protocol. Reports information to the physician and instructions and follows up with patients.
Answers phone and directs callers to appropriate persons.
Processes medical records request.
Develops, implements, and ensures compliance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures.
Participates in all EFCST events/activities.
Performs all duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Two (2) years of previous experience in a clinic is preferred.
The ability to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently is required.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Must be able to work independentlyAbility to communicate well individually, in small groups, and in public settings.
Must be a team player.
Self-starter, professional, problem solver, energetic, motivated, creative, and caring.
May make frequent decisions with significant importance concerning the operation of the Clinic and corresponding patient care.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must be able to work effectively in normal and emergency situations and be able to operate patient care equipment. Requires some physical stamina to lift or move patients. Works in a modern facility with air conditioning and heating. Will be subject to the normal hazards found in a medical clinic operation.
OTHER:
Travel to other medical clinics or facilities is required. Must have a valid drivers license, current automobile liability insurance, and a driving record with no major driving offenses. Reliable transportation is a must. Occasional evenings and weekends. May occasionally participate in outdoor activities.
