Job Description - Medical Assistant Scribe - Newburyport, MA

Position Summary:


The Medical Scribe in a dermatology practice plays a pivotal role in supporting healthcare providers by ensuring accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters, managing medical records, and facilitating the seamless execution of clinical workflows. This position requires an in-depth understanding of dermatological procedures and terminology, coupled with exceptional attention to detail and precision.


Essential Functions:


To perform effectively in this role, the candidate must fulfill the following duties with or without reasonable accommodations:



  • Document patient medical histories, dermatological examinations, diagnoses, and treatment plans with accuracy and efficiency during consultations and procedures.

  • Record and transcribe comprehensive dermatological findings, including descriptions of skin conditions, lesions, and prescribed treatments.

  • Assist dermatologists during patient examinations, biopsies, and other procedures by capturing detailed notes and observations in real time.

  • Prepare dermatological equipment and materials to support clinical activities.

  • Input test results, dermatological images, and biopsy findings into electronic health record (EHR) systems with precision.

  • Maintain the organization, accuracy, and accessibility of patient medical records and charts.

  • Support administrative functions such as scheduling patient appointments, managing documentation, and coordinating with other staff to ensure operational efficiency.

  • Update patient charts regularly to reflect current dermatological information and clinical recommendations.

  • Capture, organize, and manage dermatological images using specialized imaging systems, ensuring accurate association with corresponding patient records.

  • Collaborate with dermatologists and clinical staff to verify and clarify patient information as needed.

  • Communicate critical dermatological findings and recommendations to the healthcare team.

  • Adhere to all applicable healthcare regulations and guidelines, including HIPAA, with heightened sensitivity to protecting patient privacy and the confidentiality of dermatological information.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:



  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in dermatology or medical scribing is preferred.

  • Proficiency in dermatological terminology and a strong understanding of dermatological procedures and practices.

  • Excellent typing and data entry skills, with a proven ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, particularly those used in dermatological settings.

  • Commitment to patient confidentiality and adherence to ethical and legal standards in healthcare.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.

  • Demonstrated interest in pursuing a long-term career in the medical field, particularly in dermatology.
