Job Description - Medical Assistant/Clinic Nurse

Position Summary:  Provides professional nursing care to patients according to established procedures; coordinates care planning with other disciplines



Qualifications:  Prefer a minimum of one year clinical experience in a clinical setting.


  For RNs: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, registration and current RN/LPN license in the state of Kansas; CPR


                  certification. 


   For Medical Assistants: Medical Assistant certificate preferred but not required. CPR certification.



 Duties: 



  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, continuous quality improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards and other administrative duties as assigned

  • Writes initial nursing histories and assesses patients’ conditions

  • Administers and controls medications

  • Assists in formulating and screening Quality Assurance criteria and providing in-service training for staff

  • Monitors, maintains and ensures accuracy of recording patient care documentation.  Maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc.

  • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with clinic standards

  • Maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of the patient’s medical treatment

  • Observes emotional stability of patients and expresses interest in their progress

  • Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care

  • Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy

  • Arranges for patients’ ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services

  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops

  • Attends meetings as required

  • Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment

  • Assists other members of the nursing team and/or other disciplines\

  • Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations and interdepartmental objectives

  • Orients, instructs and trains assigned personnel

  • Demonstrates competency and professionalism in performing the overall patient care and responsibilities of the clinic nurse position

  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information



Working Conditions:



  • Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases

  • Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances

  • Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness)

  • Subject to varying and unpredictable situations

  • May have to handle emergency or crisis situation

  • Occasionally subjected to irregular hours

  • Occasional stress due to multiple calls and injuries

  • May perform emergency care
