MEDICAL ASSOCIATE SUPERVISOR/LPN

SUMMARY:

The Medical Associate Supervisor is a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) responsible for the administrative supervision of Medical Associates (Certified Nursing Assistants) in a detox and residential addiction treatment setting. This role ensures that the Medical Associates provide safe and effective patient care and adhere to all policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. The Medical Associate Supervisor also provides direct nursing care under the medical supervision of Registered Nurses and medical providers, supports the multidisciplinary treatment team, and collaborates closely with the Medical Associate Manager to ensure a cohesive and well-functioning medical team.

 

REPORTING:

  • Direct Supervisor: Medical Associate Manager
  • Dotted Line Reporting: Registered Nurse or medical providers on shift for medical supervision/direction on patient care

  • Medical Associates (Certified Nursing Assistants)

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide administrative supervision, support, and guidance to Medical Associates, ensuring compliance with facility protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing training and coaching to Medical Associates.
  • Oversee daily scheduling, coverage, and workload distribution for Medical Associates to ensure adequate staffing.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and training programs for Medical Associates.
  • Provide direct nursing care, including medication administration, patient assessments, and monitoring withdrawal symptoms.
  • Document patient care activities and ensure accurate, timely, and compliant medical records.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and update individualized care plans for patients.
  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Maintain a safe and clean treatment environment by adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
  • Act as a liaison between the Medical Associates and the nursing and clinical teams to facilitate effective communication and care coordination.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the planning and improvement of patient care services.
  • Monitor and report on the performance and compliance of Medical Associates to the Medical Associate Manager.
  • Assist with the resolution of grievances and incidents involving Medical Associates, in collaboration with the Medical Associate Manager and Director of Nursing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Medical Associate Manager.

Requirements

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  1. Effective oral and written communication skills with clients and staff.
  2. Leadership qualities
  3. Supervision of staff, including performance management and scheduling
  4. Computer experience, knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to learn Access, Word, and electronic medical records.
  5. Ability to solve unexpected problems as they arise while considering liability, precedence, programmatic implications, and other possible future impacts on the program, services, or organization.
  6. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and direct medical care within the residential program assigned.
  7. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders.

Education and Experience: 

  1. Current and valid LPN license in New Mexico.
  2. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
  3. Prior experience in addiction treatment, behavioral health, or a similar healthcare setting is preferred.
  4. At least 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
  5. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  6. Must be computer literate in order to effectively maintain compliance with licensing and certification standards.
  7. Must have and maintain a current, valid NM Driver’s License, a clean driving record, and auto insurance.
  8. Bi-lingual/Bi-cultural preferred (English/Spanish).
