Medical Billing Specialist

Job Summary

We are looking for an organized and detail-oriented Medical Billing Assistant to help support our billing team. This entry-level role is a great opportunity for someone interested in healthcare administration. Training will be provided, but basic knowledge of medical insurance is preferred.

Job Duties

• Help prepare and mail patient statements


• Verify patient insurance information and coverage


• Assist with posting client payments


• Review insurance and clearinghouse payer rejections


• Communicate with insurance companies to check claim status


• Answer basic patient billing questions by phone or in person


• Assist in keeping client records accurate and up to date


• Follow privacy rules and protect patient information (HIPAA)


• Work closely with office staff to resolve billing issues

Knowledge & Skills

• Basic understanding of medical insurance (commercial plans, Medicare, Medicaid)


• Familiarity with copays, deductibles, and insurance coverage


• Willingness to learn medical billing basics


• Comfortable using computers and office software


• Good attention to detail and organization skills


• Strong communication and customer service skills


• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)


• Medical billing or healthcare training or coursework (preferred)


• Previous office, customer service, or healthcare experience is a plus


• On-the-job training provided
