We are a global biotechnology company, advancing personalized healthcare by developing and commercializing precision clinical diagnostic tests for life-changing diseases. Our tests are based on OBD's proprietary 3D genomic biomarker platform, EpiSwitch® which enables screening, evaluation, validation and monitoring of biomarkers to diagnose patients or determine how individuals might respond to a disease or treatment.


Currently OBD has two commercially available products: the EpiSwitch® PSE (Prostate Cancer Detection) blood test and EpiSwitch® CiRT (cancer immunotherapy response) blood test.


The Group’s US operations and clinical laboratory are in Frederick, Maryland. Our headquarters and UK laboratories are in Oxford, UK, and we have a reference laboratory in Penang, Malaysia.



Role Overview:


As a Medical Collections Manager, your role is to manage OBD’s contract billing agency and follow-up with medical insurance companies as needed, in order to increase the percentage of payments received, secure higher reimbursement amounts, and support the success of appeals.


 


Key Responsibilities:


Work with the contract billing agency to manage submission of insurance claims



  • Regularly provide lists of claims to contractor for submission to insurance

  • Track the detailed status of all claim submissions, paid, unpaid, and pending claims, institution accounts, and self-payments

  • Update OBD’s order management system with claim status reports for internal tracking and trending


Gather and assemble documentation related to insurance follow-up and denials



  • Examples: Verification/eligibility of insurance, medical records requests, and pre-authorizations as needed.

  • Provide the required documentation to the billing contractor and verify submission to insurance providers.

  • Ensure follow-up of appeals by billing contractor and effective communication of updates.

  • Work with OBD’s finance team to reconcile claim reimbursements with bank receipts and reconcile contractor’s monthly service invoices against payments received.


Report to Operations management regularly on claim status metrics, and root causes of payment delays/denials, providing recommendations for mitigation



  • Resolve problems and rectify inefficiencies related to payment delays or denials.


Ensure services are provided in accordance with state and federal regulations (e.g., HIPAA), organizational policies, and other regulatory requirements



  • Manage OBD Billing Policies and related documentation



Qualifications and Experience:



  • BA/BS Degree in Business, Healthcare administration, or related field.

  • Certification in billing and/or coding is preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in a healthcare environment, particularly in billing, collections, payment processing or denial management.



Skills:



  • Highly organized, exceptional attention to detail, and proficient with multi-tasking

  • This role requires self-direction and proactive collaboration to ensure successful communication with internal and external customers and a positive representation of the company as whole

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment with high attention to detail and a focus on quality results

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment

  • Ability to train and mentor junior staff; supervisory experience is preferred
