What is this job?

The Medical Coordinator is responsible for initiating and maintaining effective working relationships with the ORR Medical Coordinator, ORR designated insurance provider, community providers and the BCC Health Suite. The primary responsibility of the Medical Coordinator is to schedule medical appointments and obtain authorization for such. An essential responsibility of the Medical Coordinator is to maintain medical files for all clients in the Caminos program.

You would be helping children who have recently migrated to the United States and are seeking opportunities for reunification with family as well as the chance to pursue their education and legal immigration cases. BCC calls this our Caminos program, and we see it as a fulfillment of our purpose as a non-profit: to enrich communities, one family at a time.

What does this job do specifically?

Essential Functions:

  • Model and act in accordance with BCC's core values.
  • Demonstrate and practice trauma informed leadership.
  • Ensures all Caminos Program residents receive quality and timely medical care in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining and overseeing working relationships with community providers to ensure all medical appointments and follow- up recommendations are documented, monitored and reported according to state and federal standards.
  • Responsible for timely submission of Treatment Authorization Requests, or other forms required for reporting and billing purposes.
  • Maintains regular and consistent communication with designated ORR Medical Coordinator, including participation in regular ORR sponsored training and guidance updates.
  • Assists in the implementation of a meaningful quality assurance/quality improvement program for healthcare services; works cooperatively with others in the organization to carry it out.
  • Ensures completeness of documentation of medical services provided to clients as required in federal and state databases, including the completion and submission of medical serious incident reports.
  • Performs administrative duties as requested by supervisor, including researching and updating protocols/procedures, obtaining educational materials, coordinating care at outlying facilities, tracking billings and expenditures and organizing in service training using Health Suite or outside providers.
  • Assists case management staff to provide information, psychosocial education and local community resources as needed to identified sponsor placements.
  • Ensures the completion and accuracy of Caminos medical files.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the value of cultural diversity, including the ability to develop systems and practices that are inclusive of diverse staff members and responsive to the cultural needs of the client population served.
  • Participates in assigned committees and projects throughout the Board of Child Care and works to implement vision, goals, and objectives of the entire organization.
  • Coordination of transportation for children/youth for medical appointments.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Maintenance of confidential files.
  • Medication administration, storage and disposal.
  • Demonstrate a willingness and ability to learn and evolve with changes in the organization and in healthcare.
  • Arrange or partners with other health professionals regarding health and safety standards for out-of-home child care, child care licensing requirements, disease reporting requirements for care providers, immunizations for children, injury prevention for children, medication management and knowledge of community health and mental health resources for children.
  • Obtain and maintain certification as a “user” in BCC’s electronic health record software system, Cx360.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. eligible for flex schedule. Non-essential for inclement weather.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
  • Possession of an active Registered Nurse license without disciplinary infractions by the applicable State Board of Nursing
  • Certification to provide training, oversight and monitoring for Medication Administration Certification by direct care personnel, as per applicable State regulatory within the first six (6) months of hire.
  • Two (2) years of nursing experience preferably in a pediatric or group home setting
  • Basic computer skills

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience working with diverse populations, including refugee and/or unaccompanied children and adolescents
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
