Overview






NaphCare  is seeking an experienced Medical Director (MD/DO) to join our team of healthcare professionals at the Mobile County Jail in Mobile, Alabama.

 

This is an exceptional opportunity for a physician who is passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centered care while providing clinical leadership in a dynamic correctional healthcare environment. As the Medical Director, you will lead a multidisciplinary medical team, oversee the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services, and play a vital role in ensuring safe, effective, and evidence-based care for a medically complex patient population.

 

In this leadership role, you will help shape clinical operations, support quality improvement initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, and mentor medical staff all while making a meaningful impact on an underserved population.









Responsibilities






As the Medical Director, you will provide clinical oversight while delivering high-quality medical care and ensuring healthcare services meet all applicable clinical, regulatory, and accreditation standards. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting rounds in the medical and infirmary units
  • Performing sick call visits and managing chronic care
  • Responding to and initiating care for medical emergencies
  • Leading quality improvement initiatives to evaluate and enhance healthcare services
  • Coordinating, leading, and participating in educational and training activities
  • Supervising Staff Physicians and other medical personnel
  • Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and facility regulations, including court mandates and accreditation standards
  • Collaborating with nursing leadership, correctional staff, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to ensure exceptional patient care
  • Supporting operational excellence through effective clinical leadership, communication, and teamwork








Qualifications






Experience / Requirements / Qualifications

 

  • Medical Degree (MD or DO)
  • Current, unrestricted physician license in the State of Alabama
  • Current DEA Registration
  • Current BLS Certification (AHA required)
  • Board Certified by a specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience directing physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Strong clinical background with knowledge of current medical practices, evidence-based medicine, and quality improvement principles
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Working knowledge of applicable healthcare laws, correctional healthcare standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and protected health information
  • Demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and adherence to NaphCare's Code of Conduct and all correctional healthcare policies and procedures
  • Must successfully pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening

 

 

Physical Capabilities:

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
