Medical Driver

This is a physically demanding position requiring the individual to bend, stoop, crouch, twist, kneel and lift up to 200 lbs. up to 8" occasionally. Any candidate that applies should take in consideration of the physical demands.

Who We Serve: EMT serves organizations in the St. Louis, Missouri metro and surrounding areas, including neighboring areas in Illinois, as well as Cumberland, Maryland. These organizations include school districts, hospitals, doctor's offices, and more. We also transport individuals and families to and from appointments or simply when they need a ride.

Position Summary:

Responsible for all aspects involved in the loading, transporting, and unloading of passengers with mobility challenges into and out of a vehicle equipped with lift platforms for stretchers, gurneys and/or wheelchairs.  Provides safe, compassionate, dignified, and timely transportation for passengers confined to prone positions on gurneys, stretchers, back-boards or other devices and equipment. 

Essential Functions:

Passenger Transportation:

• Safely transport passengers to and from medical appointments, school, or any other destination, ensuring timely arrivals.

• Transfer or assist patients onto the stretcher/wheelchair ensuring the patient is properly secured and the stretcher/wheelchair is in a locked and stable position prior to transport.

• Assure each stretcher/gurney and/or wheelchair is properly secured using 4-point tie downs.

• Assure each passenger is properly secured by lap and shoulder belts as equipped and indicated by the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations.

• Monitor passenger activity periodically while taking care not to become distracted.

Vehicle Maintenance and Safety Checks:

• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the vehicle is in safe operating condition.

• Report any maintenance or safety issues to the appropriate personnel promptly.

Customer Service:

• Provide excellent customer service by engaging with passengers in a friendly and professional manner.

• Address passenger concerns or questions during transit to enhance their experience.

Record Keeping:

• Maintain accurate records of all trips, including passenger details, mileage, and any incidents or issues encountered during transportation.

• Ensure compliance with all company policies and relevant regulations regarding documentation.

Routing and Navigation:

• Utilize GPS and mapping tools to determine the most efficient routes for transportation.

• Adjust routes as necessary to accommodate traffic conditions and passenger needs.

Compliance and Safety Standards:

• Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations governing transportation services.

• Follow company policies regarding safety, including the use of seat belts and other safety equipment.

Collaboration with Dispatch and Team Members:

• Communicate effectively with dispatch to receive and confirm trip assignments.

• Collaborate with other drivers and staff to ensure seamless service delivery.

• Provide oversight and direction to Monitors and/or Helpers assigned to the same trip. 

• Other duties as assigned.

• Must be 21 years old or older.

• Must have a clean criminal record and pass a drug screening.

Education:

• Highschool Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

• Proven experience in customer service or in a similar role. 

• Familiarity with safety and emergency procedures.

• First Aid, AED and CPR certification preferred.

Abilities:

• Ability to assist passengers courteously and efficiently

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills 

• Able to bend, stoop, crouch, twist, kneel and lift up to 200 lbs. up to 8" occasionally

• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays

• Must have no more than three (3) traffic citations in the previous 36 months and no driver’s license suspensions or revocations within the past five years.

• Must maintain a clean driving record throughout employment with EMT

• Must possess a valid state-issued driver’s license which allows for the operation of vehicles “for hire” (Class “E” in Missouri, Class “D” in Illinois)

• Must not have any no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions related to health care, fraud, theft, embezzlement, breach of fiduciary responsibility, or other financial misconduct; elder abuse; patient abuse in connection with the delivery of a health care item or service; unlawful manufacture, distribution, prescription, or dispensing of a controlled substance; and any felony or misdemeanor conviction for child abuse, elderly abuse, domestic violence, criminal sexual conduct, drugs or weapons.
