Job Title/Position: DME Supervisor
Reports to: Director of Human Resources
Job Description Summary
The DME Supervisor is responsible for the delivery, setup, training and pickup of all Durable Medical Equipment (DME). He/she also supervises the activities of the DME Technician(s). This is a non-exempt position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBIITIES
1. Maintains a safe and clean environment in the delivery room.
2. Delivers, sets up, and picks up equipment; performs maintenance as needed and able.
3. Provides instruction sheets for each piece of equipment.
4. Teaches use of equipment with return demonstration of understanding.
5. Respects patients’ rights and confidential information.
6. Maintains and sees to repairs of Hospice of Midland company vehicles.
7. Maintains usage log for the company vehicles.
8. Ensures all required paper work is completed in a timely manner.
9. Follows OSHA’s safety guidelines.
10. Follows Exposure Control guidelines in regards to Personal Protective Equipment.
11. Reports immediately to supervisor any incidents or accidents involving patients, family, or self.
12. Participates in Quality Assessment Performance Improvement.
13. Assists the Chief Executive Officer and Finance Director in the preparation and administration of their department’s budget. Monitors allocation of resources according to budgetary limitations for their department. Identifies opportunities for cost containment and improved fiscal viability.
14. Practices risk management.
15. Maintains an adequate supply of both DME and other supplies by coordinating with the appropriate staff member who orders such supplies.
16. Maintains an accurate inventory of DME equipment through the use of spreadsheets and/or databases.
17. Ensures that DME services are provided that meet state and federal regulations as well as CHAP accreditation standards.
18. Promotes Hospice of Midland in the community.
19. Supports the Hospice of Midland Mission and Values.
20. Completes other projects and duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
1. Must be a self-starter, have personal integrity, and be dependable.
2. Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English; Spanish preferred.
3. Must have good mechanical and computer skills.
4. Must be willing to learn maintenance and repair skills on Durable Medical Equipment.
5. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and is in good working order.
6. Must be punctual, reliable and available during office hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and for on-call as required; duties may include regular hours outside of these.
7. Organization personnel are expected to participate in appropriate education as may be requested by their immediate supervisor. In addition, organization personnel are expected to accept personal responsibility for other educational activities to enhance job-related skills and abilities. All personnel must attend mandatory educational programs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The DME Supervisor must be able to sit, stand, squat, bend, kneel, twist and climb. They must also be able to lift and push/pull up to 100 pounds. They also occasionally are exposed to dust, walk on uneven or rough ground, and work near moving equipment. Hands will be used for repetitively grasping and turning, fine manipulation and speed work. Possibility of minor cuts or injury from instruments and equipment. Possibility of strain due to moving patients and equipment or injury from confused/disoriented patients. Must be able to climb stairs and negotiate walkways of varying design. Must have the use of eyes, ears, and power of speech. Must be able to drive company vehicles safely, following all company policies and local and state ordinances.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
1. May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold in all weather conditions. Must drive in various weather conditions on roads in varying degrees of repair.
2. May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. May be exposed to patient elements. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Handles emergency or crisis situations. Travel required. OSHA Exposure Category I (position includes tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues).
