Medical Technologist/Medical Lab Technician
A Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs clinical laboratory procedures and examinations which require limited exercise of independent judgment and which are performed under the supervision of a clinical laboratory technologist, laboratory supervisor, or director of a clinical laboratory. Under the direction of a Technical Specialist or charge technologist, a Medical Laboratory Technician provides prompt and accurate laboratory test results and/or prepares products for transfusion in support of patient care, using established and approved protocols which require some degree of independent judgment, interpretation, and responsibility May be assigned responsibility to train other clinical laboratory personnel and or/students.
Education/Qualifications:
-Prerequisites include an Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited medical laboratory technician program (preferred), Biology or Chemistry, or professional training programs offered through either the military service of the United States or the military service of the state which may, where applicable, be accepted by the NYS Education Department for licensing purposes as equivalent education and training in lieu of all or part of an approved program.
-Medical Technologists are encouraged to apply as well
-Candidates must be qualified as a Medical Technician in accordance with New York State Department of Health regulations.
-Experience in standard laboratory methodologies required. Previous Clinical Laboratory experience preferred.
Licensure/Certificates:
-Licensure by NYS SED as a Clinical Laboratory Technician required or licensure-eligible with a limited permit or limited license as a Clinical Laboratory Technician.
