POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, performs clinical laboratory procedures, quality assurance, and instrument maintenance. Maintains cooperative working relationships with intradepartmental and interdepartmental personnel. Troubleshoots instruments and may determine the need for a technical service call. Position Summary Expanded:
Under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, (“The Unity Bill”) this position is considered a “Safety-sensitive position. “Safety-sensitive” is defined to include “any job that includes tasks or duties that could affect the safety and health of the employee performing the task or others.” Employees working in “safety-sensitive” roles are subject to this exception and subject to disciplinary action in the event of a positive test for marijuana or its metabolites.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Job Functions
1) Performs routine and special laboratory tests. Recognize test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action.
2) Calls critical test results to physicians or nurses immediately and according to established criteria.
3) Maintains abnormal results log according to protocol.
4) Prepares test reports legibly. Initials and dates own work performed. Reviews reports for clerical accuracy and clinical indications.
5) Runs quality-control tests according to procedure and maintains appropriate data recording.
6) Analyzes quality-control data and takes appropriate corrective action when results are outside acceptable limits. Documents actions taken.
7) Performs preventive maintenance and troubleshooting. Observes and follows department preventive maintenance schedules.
8) Documents all instrument checks, preventive maintenance, routines, problems, and corrective action taken.
9) Reports unresolved instrument/clinical problems to manager.
10) Provide Inservice training to other laboratory personnel as necessary.
11) Assures assimilation of procedures and evaluates troubleshooting techniques. Documents same by initialing department checklist.
12) Attends and/or participates in the preparation and/or presentation of the laboratory quality assurance program.
13) Keeps work area neat, clean, and restocks daily supplies.
14) Maintains tally records of work performed for workload and statistical reporting purposes. Helps maintain files pertinent to the laboratory area.
15) Attends continuing education seminars and workshops to keep current on new advancements in instrumentation, techniques and procedures.
16) Performs other associated duties as directed by manager.
17) This position covers the registration desk as needed.
