We’re searching for a Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead, someone who’s ready to be part of the best ranked children’s hospital in Texas, and among the best in the nation. In this position, you'll oversee workflow and perform quality assurance duties in the Laboratory Section of your responsibility. You may also serves as team leader, scheduler, and primary trainer for the section.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
Validates specimen identification, type and size and processes samples according to established handling protocols
Organizes and prioritizes routine, STAT and Laboratory Triage System samples to meet required turnaround times
Performs routine and specialized testing, evaluates questionable results, repeats tests when necessary and documents corrective actions in the laboratory information system
Reports critical results promptly and documents all required information
Performs and reviews quality control procedures, investigates unacceptable results and completes corrective-action documentation
Conducts instrument function checks, calibrations and scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and troubleshoots equipment problems
Assists with new testing processes, written procedures, audits, statistical analyses and operational reports
Maintains appropriate inventory levels and monitors reagent crossover checks, expiration dates and backorders
Trains students and employees, develops training materials and competency assessments and coordinates internship assignments
Revises and maintains technical procedure manuals and participates in continuing education and in-service programs
Troubleshoots laboratory information system issues and supports system maintenance, interfaces, upgrades, test plans and training documents
Performs laboratory in-charge duties as needed and supports safety practices, regulatory compliance, inspections and budget planning
Communicates testing, quality control and instrumentation problems promptly to appropriate laboratory leadership
Performs other related duties as assigned
Skills & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, medical technology or a related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent education required
Three years of experience in a laboratory setting applicable to the assigned area of responsibility or certification required
One of the following certifications must be obtained within 18 months of entering the role required:

MB-ASCP Technologist in Molecular Biology, American Society for Clinical Pathology
MLS-ASCP Medical Laboratory Scientist, American Society for Clinical Pathology
MP-ASCP Technologist in Molecular Pathology, American Society for Clinical Pathology
MT-ASCP Medical Technologist, American Society for Clinical Pathology
MT-AMT Medical Technologist, American Medical Technologists
SM-ASCP Specialist in Microbiology, American Society for Clinical Pathology
IMLS International Medical Laboratory Scientist, American Society for Clinical Pathology

SCT-ASCP Specialist in Cytology, American Society for Clinical Pathology
Master’s degree or higher in biology, chemistry, laboratory science or a related field may substitute for one year of the required experience preferred
