VOA Spokane is hiring for our Medical Respite Program at Hope House, which provides short-term recovery support for individuals experiencing homelessness after a hospital stay. We’re seeking compassionate, dependable individuals to join our overnight care team and help foster a safe, healing space rooted in community, dignity, and respect.

Position Summary
Medical Respite Support Staff play a vital role in promoting safety, stability, and healing. Staff assist individuals recovering from medical issues while supporting their mental and emotional well-being in a trauma-informed, community-oriented setting. This role is essential in maintaining the operations and spirit of Hope House, helping people regain strength, confidence, and connection.

Schedule & Compensation

• Full-time position including Saturday and Sunday overnight shifts (9:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
   
• Additional shifts may be added during the week and can fluctuate based on program needs
   

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overnight monitoring and support for individuals recovering from illness, injury, or crisis
   
• Foster a warm, respectful, and inclusive environment that supports both physical and mental health recovery
   
• Conduct intakes and orient participants to program expectations
   
• Maintain thorough documentation, communication logs, and incident reports
   
• Respond to emergencies and behavioral health needs with empathy and professionalism
   
• Offer referrals to supportive services and community resources
   
• Support daily structure, participant engagement, and continuity of care across shifts

Qualifications

• No medical training required—what matters most is your compassion, strong communication skills, and empathy for others
   
• BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification, or willingness to obtain within 6 months
   
• Eligible to apply for Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC) within 30 days of hire
   
• Must pass a comprehensive background check and driving record review
   
• Comfortable working independently overnight and maintaining professional boundaries
   
• Strong interpersonal skills, emotional resilience, and a commitment to trauma-informed care
   

Preferred but Not Required

• Experience supporting individuals affected by homelessness, behavioral health challenges, or trauma
   
• Lived experience and/or willingness to obtain Peer Support Certification
   
• Familiarity with behavioral health, social services, or medical respite programs
