Job Description - Medical Scribe (PT)

Hours: First shift, part time position | No Supervisory Responsibilities | No Travel | Pay commensurate with experience




Part-time, day shift position at Ashe Orthopedic & Sports Medicine.




JOB SUMMARY:   


 


Assist healthcare providers in documenting patient encounters by accurately transcribing medical information.  Enter patient information, medical history, and examination details into electronic medical records systems. Organize and manage medical records, ensuring they are up-to-date and easily accessible.




MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:



Education: 



  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.


 Experience: 



  • Orthopedic medical terminology preferred. 

  • Previous experience as a Medical Scribe/ Certification is preferred. 

  • Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology is required.


 License/Certifications:  None




ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Accompany provider in room during patient visit.

  • Scribe document in Athena to include: history of present illness, review of systems, physical exam, findings, diagnostic assessment and plan of care.

  • Document results of laboratory and radiographic studies as discussed by provider.

  • Refill any patient prescriptions as directed by the provider.

  • Enter orders for procedures or labs as directed by the provider.

  • Enter billing information as determined by the type of office visit.

  • Coordinate multiple projects and patients and solve problems under pressure.

  • Communicate and interact professionally with others.

  • Treat all information and data utilized in the scope of the scribe position with complete confidentiality   and security in compliance with governing HIPAA regulations. 

  • Maintain exam rooms with necessary supplies and materials.  Ensures cleanliness.  

  • Greet patients and prepares them for physical examination.  

  • Screens patients for appropriate information. 

  • Responsible for reporting improperly operating medical equipment and instruments to Office Coordinator

  • Responsible for following OSHA regulations.

  • Regularly interacts with physicians and other departments in order to identify and resolve problems.

  • Maintains patient, employee and clinic confidentiality.

  • Other duties as assigned.




Must be willing to receive all required vaccinations (i.e., flu shot, etc.). All new employees working must be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment (unless the new hire has requested and received an exemption). Candidates for employment will be notified of this policy requirement prior to the start of employment. After receiving an offer of employment, new employees must provide proof of vaccination or request and receive an exemption before beginning work.
