We invite you to join our team as an experienced Medical Support Assistant! We are excited to present a rewarding opportunity for compassionate and skilled Medical Support Assistants or Medical Assistants to join our team at the Taos-Picuris Indian Health Center, located in the beautiful Taos, NM. Here’s what you need to know:

• Family Health Clinic, Medical Support Assistant
• Up to a 1-year contract, with extension options
• Full-Time hours, 8-hour day shifts 
• Monday through Friday 8am-5pm
• 11 paid Federal Holidays 
• Benefit options
• Basic Life Support CLS certification is required 
• Medical Office experience Required
• CMA Certification preferred
• Fully Onsite
• Previous IHS experience preferred
• Adult and Pediatric

What You’ll Do:

• Provide professional customer service to patients and internal staff.
• Answer phone calls and assist with inquiries.
• Register and check in patients; update demographic and insurance information.
• Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments across multiple departments.
• Verify and document third-party insurance (Medicare,      Medicaid, Private, VA).
• Scan and upload documents into Electronic Health      Records (EHR).
• Process and track referrals, approvals/denials, and purchase orders.
• Manage medical records and ensure accurate release of information per HIPAA and federal laws.
• Assist with ROI requests, document disclosures, and monitor processing timelines.
• Conduct data entry, abstraction, and audits across RPMS, EHR, PMAS systems.
• Support technical troubleshooting with Site Manager as needed.
• Maintain strict patient confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.
• Participate in tribal community events and complete required onboarding and trainings.

Requirements

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• 2-3 Years of Experience in a medical office environment
• Family Health Medical Assistant experience needed
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
• Certified/licensed Medical Assistant Certificate preferred
• Current certification in BLS (Basic Life Support) required
• Certifications and licenses must be active, unrestricted, and free of disciplinary action in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent computer and organizational skills required 
• Must be a US Citizen
• Must be willing to submit to a federal background check
