Job Description - Medical Technologist

Location:

Alvin C. York Veterans Administration Medical Center, 3400 Lebanon Pike, Murfreesboro, TN 37129

Position Type: Full-time
Responsibilities:

Perform routine and stat diagnostic laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, and blood bank.
Conduct blood compatibility testing and issue blood and blood products as needed.
Operate, maintain, and calibrate advanced laboratory equipment and instruments.
Ensure accuracy of test results by verifying quality and reliability standards.
Manage specimen collection, preparation, and processing in accordance with laboratory protocols.
Accurately document test results in the system and adhere to strict confidentiality standards.
Collaborate with healthcare providers to deliver timely, actionable test results and ensure patient safety.
Participate in training, continuing education, and proficiency assessments to maintain technical excellence.

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field.
Certification: AMT or ASCP certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT).
Experience: Minimum of one year in a clinical laboratory setting.
Proficiency in using laboratory information systems and adhering to safety protocols.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
