JOB SUMMARY:
The Medication Home Delivery Courier uses a MAHEC fleet vehicle to pick up and deliver prescription medications, medical supplies, and related materials from multiple MAHEC pharmacies to patient homes across Buncombe, Henderson, and surrounding counties. This includes interoffice deliveries between campus facilities as well as satellite offices and affiliated locations around the Western NC MAHEC region. This role ensures safe, timely, and compliant delivery of medications—including controlled substances—while maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to all MAHEC, state, and federal regulations.
The courier may also collect cash payments from patients when and is responsible for secure handling, documentation, and return of collected funds. This includes interoffice deliveries between campus facilities as well as satellite offices and affiliated locations around the Western NC MAHEC region.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Make scheduled and unscheduled delivery routes from MAHEC pharmacies to patient homes across Western NC, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of medications.
Coordinate daily with pharmacy staff to receive delivery manifests, verify medication packages, and confirm patient delivery requirements.
Follow a pre‑set delivery schedule that may vary based on patient needs, medication urgency, weather, or pharmacy workflow.
Ensure all medications—especially controlled substances—are delivered securely and directly to the patient or authorized recipient, obtaining signatures as .
Collect cash payments when applicable, following MAHEC cash‑handling procedures and returning funds to the pharmacy at the end of each shift.
Maintain strict confidentiality of all Personal Health Information (PHI). All medication packages and PHI must remain locked and secured during transport.
Perform pre‑trip vehicle inspections and ensure the fleet vehicle remains in safe operating condition. Submit maintenance work orders when needed.
Communicate delivery issues, delays, or patient concerns to pharmacy staff promptly to ensure continuity of care.
Assist pharmacy operations by identifying opportunities to improve delivery efficiency, safety, and patient satisfaction.
Provide exceptional customer service, representing MAHEC professionally during all patient interactions. The Courier performs pre-trip inspections on the delivery vehicle and ensures the maintenance schedule is maintained. This includes notification to maintenance via a workorder if any problems with the vehicle arise, maintenance notifications appear on the control screens, or anytime maintenance is .

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Heavy - Very high energy level: Lift over 50 lbs, Lift and Carry 80 lbs and walking a distance of 30 feet, Push/Pull > 200 lbs (patient on a bed or stretcher), Lateral Transfer or assisted sit to stand transfer.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in shipping, receiving or warehouse management.
High School Diploma or GED
Pass a medical examination and drug screen to determine ability to complete the daily tasks associated with the role.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous commercial vehicle driving experience
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B
REQUIRED LICENSES:
Valid NC driver’s license with clean driving record.
SCHEDULE:
Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and/or the Division); 40 hours per workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally . Work hours will need to be flexible in order to respond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested by the team leader.
POSITION COMPENSATION:
$19.90/hour, full time + full benefits available
