Job Description - Mediterraneo Pastry Chef

Join our team! Escape to a 17-acre oasis where European charm meets California luxury. At Westlake Village Inn & Spa, our culinary team crafts unforgettable experiences. Join a collaborative, creative environment where pastry artistry meets genuine hospitality. 

We are seeking a creative Pastry Chef to join Mediterraneo restaurant. This is an opportunity to elevate our guests’ dining experiences with exquisite desserts, artisanal breads, and seasonal pastries – all while working in a dynamic, supportive environment. 

General Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and plate a variety of house-made desserts, pastries, and breads according to restaurant standards and recipes.
  • Maintain consistency in flavor, portion, and presentation for all pastry items.
  • Adhere to food safety guidelines and maintain a clean, organized work environment in compliance with health department regulations.
  • Assist in crafting custom desserts.
  • Maintain station setup, par levels, and inventory rotation.
  • Work with the culinary team to develop seasonal specials.
  • Operate and maintain kitchen tools like mixers, ovens, etc., adhering to safety protocols.

Requirements

Desired Skills and Experiences:

  • 2+ years in pastry kitchen (resorts, hotels, or bakeries preferred)
  • Proficiency in foundational techniques (doughs, creams, glazes) and plating
  • Familiarity with dietary needs (gluten-free, vegan) is a plus
  • Understanding of ingredient properties (flours, chocolates, extracts) and storage best      practices
  • Valid California Food Handler’s Card (required)
  • Team player with a strong work ethic, adaptability to flexible schedules      (weekends/holidays), and a passion for growth

  • Must be able to carry, lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend and stoop regularly.
  •  Must be able to work with grills, ovens, and stovetops.

Compensation: $85,000 - $90,000 salary
