Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Membership and Annual Giving Associate is responsible for growing the membership base, renewing and upgrading member support, and strengthening relationships with current members at the Founder, Merieult, Caillot, Mahalia, and Jackson levels. This role also provides oversight and responsibility for a comprehensive annual giving program, including managing campaigns and overseeing donor relations for donors below the major donor level.

This role develops and executes direct, multi-channel fundraising activities, provides excellent customer service to members and donors, and works collaboratively with various HNOC teams to successfully execute member events and benefits. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The below duties and responsibilities are essential core functions of this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Manages portfolio of donors, including Founder, Merieult, Caillot, Mahalia, and Jackson members, as well as annual fund donors below $1,000.
  • Serves as primary representative of membership program on a daily basis, and at membership events, including all exhibition openings, museum programs, and members-only events.
  • Implements best strategies in stewardship, renewal, and upgrading of current members and donors.
  • Identifies, engages, and solicits prospective members and annual fund donors.
  • Regularly evaluates effectiveness of current membership program services, benefits, and policies, and implements changes to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Oversees and implements annual membership events. 
  • Maintains schedule and files for all membership initiatives including, but not limited to, mailings, promotion, and events, including appropriate review of copy and mailing list(s).
  • Generates reports to measure results of membership campaigns, overall membership retention and growth, and annual fund campaigns. Monitors progress towards department revenue goal(s).
  • Assists with the maintenance, security, accuracy, and integrity of the donor database.
  • Assists with donor acknowledgment.
  • Collaborates with the Communications department to promote membership experience and enhance visitor conversion. Also supports creation of multi-channel donor collateral.
  • Assists Publications department in creation of quarterly donor profile.
  • Coordinates with other HNOC teams to ensure alignment with Development duties and goals.
  • Collaborates with members of the development team to identify and upgrade members to higher levels of membership and annual giving.
  • Assists with necessary departmental reports.
  • Stays abreast of HNOC exhibitions and programming in order to best communicate with donors and prospects.
  • Attends meetings, events, luncheons, etc. as required. Represents the institution as needed at internal or external undertakings and collaborations to increase networking and outreach.
  • Meets annual Development targets for visitation and funds raised.   

Requirements

Job Qualifications:

Below are the minimum requirements necessary for this position.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of related working experience.
  • Experience working with donors, board members, and/or diverse constituencies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated understanding of HNOC’s mission and work.
  • A proven track record of innovative ideas and creative campaigns that have led to demonstrable program growth in membership and converting visitors into members.
  • Professional judgment and discretion in researching, communicating, and documenting information.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills and writing proficiency in the area of program marketing including direct mail. Superb listening skills, outgoing and personable.
  • Exceptional time management skills, with the ability to prioritize both short and long-term goals and priorities, while adhering to meaningful deadlines as well as keen attention to details.
  • Proven relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive to an evolving work environment. 
  • Ability to thrive in a data-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and donor/mailing database.     
  • Ability to resolve issues and make decisions.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with others as well as demonstrated ability to work independently.  
  • Ability to create and maintain relationships internally and externally.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Willingness to comply with HNOC’s policies and procedures.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and proficiency with Tessitura and/or CRMs. 
  • Experience in fundraising at a complex cultural institution is preferred.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position, move throughout HNOC’s and other properties, operate a computer and other office machinery, and position self to work at work station. This position consistently communicates with donors/prospects, members, co-workers and others and observes, inspects, and assesses collections, art, documents, materials, and events/activities.
