Membership Engagement Director

Salary Range: $62,353.20-$64,000

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Membership Engagement Director leads the Membership and KidzCare departments, ensuring exceptional service and engagement for all members and participants. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role oversees membership operations, staff training, and member communications while fostering a culture of outstanding customer service. The Director creates and manages systems that support a positive member experience, from initial inquiry and enrollment through ongoing participation and connection to YMCA programs and services. As a member of the branch leadership team, this position helps build strong relationships that encourage member involvement, retention, and community impact.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Develop and execute strategies to drive membership growth, engagement, and retention in alignment with branch goals and YMCA initiatives.
• Lead, hire, train, schedule, coach, and evaluate Membership and KidzCare staff and volunteers.
• Create and foster an exceptional member experience through relationship-based engagement, programs, events, tours, and ongoing member connections.
• Manage department budgets, monitor performance metrics, and implement strategies to achieve branch goals.
• Build and maintain community partnerships through outreach, recruitment efforts, events, and promotional activities.
• Provide leadership for fundraising campaigns, special events, committees, volunteer initiatives, and membership-related board activities.
• Collaborate with branch and association teams to ensure seamless member services, transactions, and operations.
• Conduct regular staff meetings and one-on-one coaching sessions focused on training, development, and performance.
• Ensure a safe, welcoming environment by enforcing YMCA policies, overseeing member conduct, and supporting risk management and emergency procedures.
• Provide overall leadership and operational oversight for both Membership and KidzCare departments.

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education and leadership experience.
• Three years’ experience in customer service, sales and marketing preferably in a membership setting.
• Two years of experience with hiring, training, mentoring and supervising associates as well as guiding and monitoring teams.
• Proven track record with selling a product or service and meeting or exceeding sales goals.
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills including negotiation, presentation skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Intermediate computer skills including experience utilizing email and working in a windows environment.  
• Ability to create a culture of serving the members and associates within the branch. 
• Ability to analyze complex information and define and solve problems.
• Ability to inspire and motivate team members.
• Passion, enthusiasm and support for mission and values of the SRYMCA. 
• Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
