Natcast (short for The National Center for the Advancement of Semiconductor Technology) is a new, purpose-built, non-profit entity created to operate the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC) consortium, established by the CHIPS Act of the U.S. government.
Working at Natcast represents an opportunity to help extend America’s leadership in semiconductor technology, significantly reduce the time and cost of moving from idea to commercialization, and build and sustain a semiconductor workforce development ecosystem.
These efforts to advance semiconductor technology and seed new industries built on the capabilities of a wide range of advanced chips hold the potential to benefit the country and the world for generations to come.
In this role you will lead groundbreaking research and development in memory device modeling, directly contributing to the advancement of U.S. semiconductor technology leadership through innovative SoC-level performance optimization.
Every day you will collaborate with world-class engineers and scientists across academia, industry, and government to solve complex challenges in memory subsystem design and integration.
To thrive in this role you must possess deep expertise in memory device physics and modeling, combined with a passion for pushing the boundaries of semiconductor technology while maintaining a collaborative spirit.
Natcast, designated by the Department of Commerce to operate the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC), represents a transformative $6.3 billion investment in America's semiconductor future. As a public-private consortium established under the CHIPS and Science Act, Natcast uniquely convenes industry, academia, and government stakeholders to accelerate U.S. leadership in semiconductor innovation and manufacturing.
This role sits at the intersection of cutting-edge memory technology development and national technological competitiveness. The Memory Device Modeling Expert will drive critical advancements in semiconductor performance modeling, directly contributing to Natcast's mission of enabling next-generation memory solutions for complex SoC designs.
Responsibilities:
Memory Device Modeling: Develop accurate, efficient models for memory devices (DRAM, SRAM, Flash, MRAM, ReRAM, etc.), including their integration into system-level designs.
SoC-Level Performance Modeling: Focus on modeling memory systems at the SoC level to assess overall performance, power consumption, latency, and throughput. Develop models that predict the behavior of memory subsystems when integrated with processors, interconnects, and other system components.
Performance Optimization: Work on optimizing memory devices and memory subsystems to meet SoC performance metrics, including speed, power efficiency, and area (PPA). Identify bottlenecks and propose solutions for performance improvements at the SoC level.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with broader functional groups to ensure accurate modeling of memory devices in the broader SoC architecture.
Data Analysis & Optimization: Analyze simulation results to understand memory subsystem behavior, identify inefficiencies, and recommend changes. Optimize memory performance while balancing power, area, and reliability constraints.
Research & Development: Stay current with developments in both memory technologies and SoC architecture. Contribute innovative ideas for memory modeling techniques and explore new memory technologies for future SoC designs.
Documentation & Reporting: Document modeling methodologies, simulation results, and optimization techniques. Prepare detailed reports and presentations for stakeholders, including technical teams and management.
Required Skills and Experience:
Ph.D. or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related field
Demonstrated expertise in memory device and SoC-level performance modeling
Proficiency in simulation tools (SystemVerilog, Verilog-A, MATLAB, Cadence, Synopsys)
Experience with memory subsystem optimization for power, performance, and area
Strong programming skills in Python, C++, or SystemC
Proven track record in memory controller design and SoC integration
Excellence in technical communication and collaboration
Preferred Skills and Experience
Research experience in semiconductor physics and emerging memory technologies
Track record of cross-organizational research collaboration
Publications in relevant technical journals or conferences
Experience with machine learning applications in device modeling
