Job Description - Mental Health and Wellness Youth Development Professional

JOB TITLE:
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Program Specialist


DEPARTMENT: Mental Health, Social-Emotional Learning,


REPORTS TO: Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator 


FLSA STATUS: ☑Exempt □Non-Exempt 


PRIMARY FUNCTION: 


Under the direct guidance of the Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator and Program Director, the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Program Specialist has the primary responsibility of implementing and overseeing an afterschool Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) program focused on fostering the social-emotional development of Members. This role emphasizes creating and facilitating activities that enhance psychological well-being and promote positive social-emotional functioning.


KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities): 



  1. Design and implement engaging activities during aftercare and summer camp to promote skill-building, psychoeducation, and emotional well-being among youth.

  2. Develop and implement evidence-based interventions and activities specifically tailored for Social-Emotional Learning, fostering emotional intelligence and resilience.

  3. Conduct formal and informal assessments to evaluate the impact of SEL interventions, collect and analyze data on progress and outcomes, and maintain accurate documentation while ensuring confidentiality. 


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Spearhead the development and implementation of new activities, projects, and initiatives aimed at educating youth about mental wellness.

  2. Review and analyze Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 Plans, and other relevant documents to understand and address the well-being and functioning of identified Members.

  3. Contribute to the planning of staff training programs on mental health challenges, trauma-informed practices, sensitivity to diversity, and related topics.

  4. Contribute ideas and actively participate in fundraising, advocacy, and community participate in SEL Team meetings to collaborate on program development and improvement.

  5. Support daily non-social work activities of the Club as needed.


SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: 



  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or related field required

  • Two (2) years of experience working with children

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Excellent adherence to structure while being able to maintain flexibility

  • Ability to perform well under pressure

  • Excellent written and oral communication and collaboration skills 

  • Proficient in Google Workspace and/or MS Office (Excel, Access, Word etc.)

  • Highly motivated self-starter
