JOB SUMMARY

The Singles Mental Health Clinician provides behavioral health services to individuals experiencing homelessness who are staying at the Gail Miller Resource Center. Working as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team, this role delivers direct behavioral health services to a diverse population, including assessments and crisis intervention. The Clinician supports individuals in addressing behavioral health concerns with the goal of achieving housing stability, increasing self-sufficiency, and improving overall quality of life. 

*Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time. 

*This is an in-person position that requires travel between various resource centers and shelters.  

*There may be flexibility for occasional remote work with work plan approval from the Clinical Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Provide comprehensive behavioral health services to adults experiencing homelessness, with a focus on identifying and addressing housing barriers related to mental health and substance use. 
  2. Identify individuals in need of clinical support based on mental illness, cognitive impairment, substance use, and high utilization of shelter and community resources; collaborate with other teams to build and maintain a caseload of approximately 30 individuals in shelter. 
  3. Maintain regular engagement with clients through weekly check-ins and ongoing supportive contact. 
  4. Assess each client's barriers to self-sufficiency and collaborate with them to develop problem-solving skills. 
  5. Support clients in developing goals that help them overcome homelessness and stabilize in the community. 
  6. Build therapeutic relationships with individuals experiencing mental health and substance use disorders, provide psychotherapy, and engage in advocacy and clinical case management duties. 
  7. Complete biopsychosocial assessments and additional mental health and substance use screeners to track client needs and progress. 
  8. Assess urgent and high-risk clinical situations and make appropriate interventions, including referrals to external partners for long-term stability. 
  9. Assist with crisis intervention, de-escalation, and other crisis-driven services for all clients in shelter as needed, including facilitating debriefing conversations with staff and clients when appropriate. 
  10. Assess the need for therapeutic groups and implement them as needed. 
  11. Maintain accurate records, therapy notes, and statistical data as required; participate in research and special projects as needed. 
  12. Attend mandatory agency trainings, including Trauma-Informed Care, Housing Focused, De-escalation, Suicide Prevention, CPR, and more.  
  13. Participate in emergency drills and environmental safety activities, as required. 
  14. Follow all agency protocols for security, safety, and sanitation to maintain a clean and secure environment for guests and staff. 
  15. Maintain regular and reliable attendance as an essential function of this position.

Additional Job Functions - Team Collaboration 

  1. Collaborate with members of leadership, case management, advocacy, and housing teams to support coordinated care. 
  2. Manage and maintain partnerships with community behavioral health providers. 
  3. Lead the weekly staffing meeting for the case management team alongside the Supportive Services Manager. 
  4. Attend weekly staff meetings as assigned with internal and external teams, including security partners, law enforcement, and other community agencies, to provide clinical insight and advocate on behalf of clients. 
  5. Refer clients to community partners and coordinate long-term services for guests once they transition into permanent housing. 
  6. Assist in providing coaching opportunities and increasing awareness of mental and behavioral health barriers with other teams. 
  7. Lead trainings on clinical topics through the TRH Training Academy for new hires every other week as needed. 
  8. Join other team members to support clients in hospital settings, during incarceration, and in the community as needed.

  • Maintain healthy boundaries using trauma-informed approaches in all interactions. 

*Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.  

Education and Experience 

  • Master's degree in a mental health discipline from an accredited university is required. 
  • L.C.S.W. or equivalent licensure is preferred; clinical supervision will be provided for a C.S.W. working toward licensure. 
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in the mental health and substance use treatment field is required. 
  • Experience working with diverse and/or vulnerable populations, or with individuals experiencing homelessness is preferred.

  8. Build and maintain effective working relationships with community partners and external agencies. 
  9. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations. 
  10. Provide thoughtful and attentive customer service by communicating clearly and handling difficult situations with professionalism, patience, and empathy. 
  11. Use basic computer programs (email, spreadsheets, and more) and have strong computer skills. 
  12. Ability to accept supervision, direction, and feedback with openness. 
  13. Communicate clearly and effectively with clients, coworkers, and supervisors using verbal and written communication. 

Physical and Equipment Requirements 

  • Ability to lift and move heavy items up to 25 pounds.  
  • Ability to sit, stand, and move for at least an hour at a time or more.  
  • Must be at least 21 years old, have a valid, unexpired driver’s license, and the ability to drive a vehicle, as needed.
