Job Description - Mental Health Clinician

Action Staffing Solutions is seeking experienced and compassionate licensed mental health counselors in southern Colorado.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Assigned case load will consist primarily of inmates with moderate to high mental health treatment needs.

Develop Mental Health treatment plans to serve as the basis for treatment.

Provide individual and group therapy.

Perform routine mental health assessments and interviews to determine progress.

Update diagnosis and psychiatric needs levels.

Refer inmates to psychology for more complex psychological assessment.

Provide information to psychiatry to include client history, previous diagnoses, and alternative treatment available.

Assures both emergency and non-emergency transfer for inmates experiencing acute mental health crisis.

Renders clinical direction to non-clinical staff in mental health care and treatment of inmates.

Assures continuity of care for inmates by making appropriate referral and providing necessary information and documentation for transition to receiving units, facilities, or agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

One year of counseling experience; prior experience with crisis intervention, suicide risk assessments and mental health counseling with an inmate population preferred.

Valid and unrestricted State of Colorado registration as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or candidate credentials.

BLS/CPR certification and current valid driver's license is required

Master’s degree from an accredited program in a counseling specialty

Requirements:

Must be 21 years of age

Must complete the onboarding and hiring process including application(s), documents, competency testing, training, background investigation(s) and drug screening

Backgrounds must be clear of any felony convictions

Immunization Records – Hep B, TB test/chest x-ray, influenza for the current season. COVID-19 vaccination is not required but is encouraged.

Must maintain all required licenses, certifications, and health records.

Resume with 10 full years of employment (explanation of gaps such as education is accepted)

Language: Ability to read, write and communicate in the English language required

Must have excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to assess situations to make independent, policy compliant decisions

Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to serve the incarcerated population with empathy, while staying objective and assertive. Must be able to work with people of diverse backgrounds

Physical Requirements:

Due to the nature of facilities physical demands may vary between facilities and day to day, this is not an all-inclusive list.

Must be able to see, hear and communicate

Must be able to use proper body positioning and body mechanics including to

Regularly stand, sit, walk, run, climb, kneel, crouch, bend, twist

Dexterity and fine motor function including strength, control, lifting, reaching and tool usage.

Must be able to lift 20 pounds frequently, up to 50 pounds infrequently, and lift or assist in lifting more than 50 pounds at times.

Must possess the physical ability to successfully complete Defensive Tactics training, a required multiple day in-person training.
