Job Description - Mental Health Instructor (1655)

Lutheran Services Florida (LSF) envisions a world where children are safe, families are strong, and communities are vibrant.


LSF is seeking a talented Mental Health Instructor who wants to make an impact in the lives of others.


Purpose and Impact:


The Refugee Mental Health Instructor provides mental health education to refugee-eligible populations that helps them to navigate the United States healthcare system and access the mental health services that will Improve their well-being. The program provides education on navigating the United States mental healthcare system, mental health resources and good mental health practices. The Refugee Health Instructor also alms to Increase mental healthcare providers' understanding of the unique healthcare needs of diverse refugee populations.


Essential Functions:



  • Facilitate the delivery of culturally appropriate mental health training and identification of educational materials for staff and refugees.

  • Plans and carryout mental health related workshops.

  • Provides preventive mental health training for new arrivals and eligible clients with mental health concerns and needs.

  • Research local community mental health providers and programs to Improve and expand partnerships that facilitate refugee mental health access to those resources.

  • Coordinate with other programs and agencies to provide services to refugees.

  • Facilitate and coordinate medical follow-ups including referrals and other services with staff and caregivers.

  • Participate In monthly conference calls facilitated by the State Refugee Health Coordinator's Office.

  • Participate In any trainings provided by the Department of Health, the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, and other trainings that will inform staff about refugee health and health access issues.

  • Participate In quarterly consultation meetings and other community stakeholder meetings, as appropriate.

  • Provide follow-up, as needed, for conditions Identified during the refugee health screening and recommendations made by staff of the local health department.

  • Provide support and assistance to staff on health service delivery Issues. This may Include assisting YJ clients with healthofl3Iated barriers to achieving self-sufficiency and Integrating Into the community.

  • Facilitate the provision of needed follow-up services through coordinating with the local Health Department.

  • Facilitate scheduling follow-up care through coordination of health services with the staff, client, and medical providers.

  • Assist with addressing health and mental health needs identified during development of the Comprehensive Services Plan and work closely with employment staff with the goal of client self-sufficiency.

  • Facilitate the delivery of mental health services through coordination with the local Community Services Boards or other providers.

  • Work closely with Supervisor to monitor and evaluate program progress and Implementation; Identify and evaluate any promising practices to be shared with other sites.

  • Assist In program tracking and reporting in accordance with requirements of program funder.

  • Provide program updates and highlights to fellow team members during check-ins and staff meetings.

  • Assist supervisor with data reporting to funders, as well as data gathering for monitoring purposes.

  • Prepares Program reports as required.


Other Functions:


To perform other related duties as assigned.


Physical Requirements:



  • Able to travel to other counties.

  • Able to sit and stand for long periods of time.

  • Able to utilize office equipment.

  • Able to work in fast paced environment.


Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in public health, Health promotion, Social Work or behavioral/human services field.

  • 1-2 years of experience providing case management and/or social services to refugees and Immigrants.


Experience:



  • Case management experience Is strongly preferred

  • 2-year experience working with refugee or Immigrants

  • Cross-cultural or International experience preferred


Skills:



  • Proficiency In Microsoft Office applications

  • Knowledge of community resources and the ability to connect families to community services.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Critical assessment and analysis skills

  • Ability to work and deal with a diverse group of clients.

  • Must be able to keep confidential Information.

  • Bilingual is required


Other:


Must demonstrate sensitivity to our service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and needs.


Principal Accountabilities:



  • Reports to Manager

  • Must be a team player with monitors as well as other clerical staff.

  • Accurate, complete and timely submission of required reports and documentation to DCF & LSF.

  • Effective working relationship with clients (providers).

  • Adherence to LSF policies and procedures.
