Job Description - Mental Health Provider

Are you looking for a Challenge? Looking for an innovative organization and the opportunity to learn and grow professionally? We can help! We are seeking a Mental Health Provider to support behavioral health operations within a short-term detention facility at Fort Bliss, Texas.

So, what will the Mental Health Provider at Terrestris do? The Mental Health Provider will play a vital role in maintaining the psychological well-being of detainees while ensuring that mental health services are delivered effectively, ethically, and in compliance with regulatory standards.

What does a typical day look like for a Mental Health Provider? You will:· Conduct initial mental health screenings upon intake to identify urgent needs or risks (e.g., suicide risk, severe psychiatric symptoms).

  • Perform comprehensive mental health evaluations and psychosocial assessments.
  • Monitor mental health status and provide follow-up evaluations as needed.
  • Respond promptly to mental health emergencies (e.g., suicidal ideation, psychotic episodes).
  • Implement suicide prevention protocols and safety planning.
  • Collaborate with custody staff to manage detainees in mental health crisis.
  • Provide short-term, evidence-based individual and group therapy (e.g., CBT, trauma-informed care).
  • Address anxiety, depression, PTSD, adjustment disorders, and behavioral concerns.
  • Offer supportive counseling for detainees facing stress from detention and legal proceedings.
  • Work closely with prescribing clinicians (psychiatrists, PAs, NPs) to monitor detainees on psychotropic medications.
  • Observe and document side effects, compliance, and therapeutic outcomes.
  • Collaborate with medical providers, case managers, and custody staff to ensure continuity and integration of care.
  • Coordinate referrals for specialized care as needed.
  • Assist with discharge planning and mental health referrals for detainees being released or transferred.
  • Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation in accordance with facility protocols and federal standards.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Performance-Based National Detention Standards (PBNDS), and other regulatory requirements.
  • Provide mental health education to facility staff on recognizing signs of psychological distress.
  • Consult with security personnel on behavioral management of detainees with mental illness.
  • Support staff wellness when appropriate.

What qualifications do you look for? You might be the professional we’re looking for if you have:

  • Must possess and maintain an active, unrestricted license to practice independently (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT, Psychologist) in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Mental Health Providers shall only consist of Clinical/Counseling Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs), or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors/Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors/Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors (LPC/LPCC/LCPC/LMHC/LCMHC) or equivalent.
  • Doctoral degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related mental health discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience post-licensure, preferably in a correctional, detention, or military setting.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; additional trauma or crisis intervention training preferred.
  • Strong clinical judgment, crisis intervention expertise, ability to work in high-stress environments, culturally sensitive care.
