*Hourly rate is inclusive of a $1.00/hr. salary stipend and a $1.00/hr. direct care stipend. Applicants with Certified Nursing Assistant ("CNA") certificates, and who are on the State's CNA registry, will be paid an additional $.50/hour.
Employees in this job classification begin at Step 5 of the pay scale. Starting salary for promotional candidates will follow contractual requirements.

DESCRIPTION: This is paraprofessional support work involving the direct care, rehabilitation, and behavior modification of patients in state institutions. Responsibilities include implementing programs in the treatment or education of the mentally ill or developmentally disabled, providing direct patient care, and maintaining resident areas. Employees may act as group leader or primary aide over an assigned group of patients. Work is performed under general supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Entry level knowledges, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO the following coursework/training and/or experience). High School Diploma or equivalent and completion of a Department approved training program or current valid certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant as issued by Maine Department of Education. Some positions may require possession of a valid Class C Maine Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).
Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) as issued by the Maine Department of Education or completion of a Department approved training program.
Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center (DDPC) is a 69-bed psychiatric hospital serving the entire State of Maine that provides services for people with severe mental illness. As a member of a statewide community of care givers, DDPC collaborates with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, their community and personal supports, to provide recovery-oriented, respectful, compassionate, and effective psychiatric care and treatment in the least restrictive, safest, and most therapeutic environment we can create.
