MERCHANDISE HANDLER

Job Summary:

A Merchandise Handler plays a crucial role in the retail and distribution industry by efficiently handling and processing goods, ensuring accurate inventory management, and contributing to a smooth operation of the supply chain. This position requires a combination of physical dexterity, attention to detail, and organizational skills.

Essential Job Functions:

• Safely and efficiently load, unload, sort, and move merchandise, packages, or products within a warehouse, distribution center, or retail store environment. 
• Accurately track, count, and record inventory levels using manual or electronic systems. Assist in maintaining inventory accuracy through proper handling and documentation. 
• Pick, pack, and prepare merchandise for shipping to customers, ensuring that orders are accurate and properly packaged to prevent damage during transit. 
• Inspect merchandise for defects, damage, or inconsistencies, reporting any issues to supervisors and following established quality control procedures. 
• Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work area, including shelving, storage bins, and loading docks. Ensure that merchandise is stored in a safe and accessible manner. 
• Operate various types of equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks, in a safe and responsible manner. Follow equipment operating procedures and safety guidelines. 
• Maintain accurate records of received and shipped merchandise, including serial numbers, SKU numbers, and other relevant information. 
• Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure smooth coordination of merchandise handling and distribution processes. 
• Perform other duties as assigned by management

Requirements

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Physical fitness for lifting and moving items
• Strong attention to detail
• Good organizational skills
• Teamwork and communication abilities
• Problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of safety protocols
• Previous experience preferred
• Basic computer skills 
• Customer service skills 
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently                                   
• Fluency in Spanish is highly preferred    

Physical demands:

• Frequent physical exertion, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy merchandise or packages.
• Capable of lifting objects weighing 50-100 pounds. 
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking on hard surfaces, such as concrete floors. 

Working environment:

• Exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and dust may be expected 

Hours:

•  Alternating shift; variable hours including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
