The Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC) is looking for a Lab Manager for our in-house analytical facility, the GLRBC UW Metabolomics Lab, to analyze metabolites produced in the conversion of plant biomass to liquid fuels and commodity chemicals. This person will collaborate with and direct a team of technicians and facility users to execute established protocols to quantify sugars, fatty acids, alcohols, and other metabolites using high-performance liquid chromatography-refractive index detectors (HPLC-RID) (Agilent) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) (LECO). Additionally, they will be responsible for planning and executing new method development, maintaining and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation, and managing lab supplies and budget. The Lab Manager position will also be responsible for monitoring lab performance and communicating with leadership and client lab stakeholders.

Minimum salary of $65,500
Experience with analytical chemistry sample preparation methodology, including the preparation of calibration and reference standards
Experience with interpreting chromatographic and mass spectrometry data using both HPLC and GC/MS instrumentation
Experience with training and directing others in analytical sample preparation and operation of analytical chemistry instrumentation
Experience managing lab supply chain and chemical and consumable inventory
Experience in developing analytical methods based on client demand; working with clients to determine method requirements, formulating a testing plan, and communicating progress to clients
Proficiency with Empower HPLC software and ChomaTOF GC/MS software
Experience maintaining and troubleshooting Leco GC/MS and Agilent HPLC analytical instruments
Knowledge of analysis and quantification of fermentation products
Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related field is highly preferred
