Job Description - Metadata and Resource Management Librarian - FT

Job purpose

Managing all aspects of monograph acquisitions and oversight of the library’s catalog..

Duties and responsibilities

Acquisitions (20%)

  • Collaborate with Library Director to develop and implement workflows for purchase of Standing Orders, E-Books, etc. 
  • Order and receive of all materials coming into the library, including verification and processing of invoices.
  • Rectify any delivery or invoice problems. 
  • De-accession of materials as needed, in accordance with the Collection Development Policy.
  • Provide timely statistics and reports of library acquisitions activities as requested

Accessioning (40%)

  • Catalog all materials acquired by the library. 
  • Develop and implement systems, methods, procedures,and standards for all cataloging activity. 
  • Supervise and train any other personnel (including student employees) involved in materials services/cataloging processes. who are doing cataloging. perform original and copy cataloging and re-cataloging of materials
  • Spearhead evaluation and implementation of workflow efficiencies provided by AI, including potential enhancement of discoverability.
  • Maintain the accuracy of the database by performing corrections on local system and updating holdings in OCLC.
  • Provide in a timely manner reports of production and performance.

Management of Rare Books and Special Collections (20%)

  • Perform original and complex cataloging of rare books and Special Collections.
  • Maintain and expand the library’s use of ArchivesSpace to provide online archival research guides.
  • Be conversant with relevant national standards.

Other responsibilities as required by the supervisor (20%)

This is a full-time, non-exempt position, with 40 hours per week expected.

May include occasional evenings/weekend shifts at circulation.

Requirements

Required qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in Library Science or Information Studies from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Three years’ academic or research library experience.
  • Three years’ experience with cataloging, acquisitions, and library systems administration. Preferred: familiarity with Innovative Interfaces Sierra Library System
  • Working knowledge of RDA, AACR2, Library of Congress Rule Interpretations, Library of Congress Classification, Library of Congress Subject Headings, and MARC21 format.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Academic background in theological and/or biblical studies.
  • Interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with ArchivesSpace

Leadership Accountability:

  • This position reports to the Director of Library Services
  • This position does not supervise or coach employees, but may be asked to conduct performance evaluations for student employees. 
  • This position does not make hiring and pay recommendations or termination recommendations.  

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to lift / move up to 50 lbs boxes as delivered
  • Abilty to push / move full book cart
