Job Description - Metal Shop Supervisor

This role sets the overall shop plan — what the goals are for the day, how work is assigned across the four production cells, and what gets prioritized — and is accountable for the shop meeting its production commitments. The Shop Manager holds sole authority over disciplinary action within the shop and shares hiring authority with the Floor & Timekeeping lead.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Meet each morning with the Plant Manager and the Floor & Timekeeping lead to align on priorities before the shop day begins.

• Direct the Floor & Timekeeping lead, who is responsible for minimizing machine downtime and keeping work flowing smoothly between cells.

• Meet with the four Cell Leads to communicate the day's plan and hold them accountable for production, safety, and quality within their cells.

• Own all disciplinary action within the machine shop, ensuring it is handled consistently and in line with company policy.

• Share hiring authority for shop positions jointly with the Floor & Timekeeping lead.

• Monitor overall shop performance and escalate resource, staffing, or equipment issues to the Plant Manager as needed.

• Maintain a safe, productive, and well-organized shop floor in partnership with the Cell Leads and Floor & Timekeeping lead.
