Short Description

The Metals Recycling Buyer II plays a key role in securing high‑quality retail scrap  to support safe, efficient, and cost‑effective steelmaking operations. Reporting to the Scrap Buyer Manager, this position is responsible for executing procurement strategies that maximize value, strengthen supplier relationships, and ensure a reliable flow of materials to our facilities.

Job Responsibilities

• Maintain strong supplier relationships through regular, field‑based engagement
• Pricing and terms to support cost control and operational performance
• Ensure consistent material quality and timely supply to meet operational needs

Education

REQUIRED:
• 2+ years of experience in scrap buying, receiving, or related materials procurement or 2 years demonstrated sales experience.



PREFERRED:
• College degree in Business Administration or related field

Long Description

• Procure retail scrap metal in a cost‑effective and efficient manner to support steelmaking operations.
• Ensure scrap purchases meet required volume, quality, and delivery specifications.
• Execute approved scrap procurement plans in alignment with commercial strategy, company policy, and operational requirements.
• Maintain strong working relationships with established scrap suppliers, peddlers, auto wreckers, and other scrap generators.
• Assist with identifying, soliciting, and onboarding new scrap suppliers within the assigned territory.
• Negotiate scrap pricing, terms, and conditions within authorized limits to maximize value and control costs.
• Coordinate closely with plant leadership, transportation, scrap inspection, and accounting teams to ensure smooth procurement execution.
• Review weekly scrap shipment activity and adjust purchasing plans to meet operational needs.
• Ensure scrap deliveries are completed on time and correctly applied to purchase orders.
• Review, approve, and resolve discrepancies related to invoices, material grading, weights, and settlements.
• Serve as the primary point of contact between scrap yard personnel and external suppliers for commercial, operational, and quality issues.
• Conduct scrap inspections at yard and supplier locations as required.
• Address and resolve scrap quality or specification compliance issues.
• Educate suppliers, carriers, and internal personnel on scrap specifications, pricing terms, safety standards, and environmental requirements.
• Maintain accurate documentation of supplier performance, purchasing activity, and procurement transactions.
• Use company procurement and scrap‑management systems to receive, track, process, and pay for scrap materials.
• Troubleshoot system, administrative, and payment issues in coordination with accounting and administrative teams.
• Uphold ethical procurement practices and promote fair, transparent supplier relationships.
• Travel weekly within the assigned region to support supplier engagement, material inspections, and business development efforts.
• Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the area's goals and objectives.
