Role Overview:
We are seeking a meticulous and experienced First Article Inspection (FAI) Technician to join our Metrology Department. This role is critical in ensuring that our molded and purchased parts meet stringent engineering and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dimensional inspection, particularly with 3D scanning technologies, vision inspection systems, and precision measurement tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the shipping and receiving of samples to and from the metrology lab.
     
  • Prepare samples for inspection, including part identification, separation, labeling, and fixturing.
     
  • Perform dimensional measurements following established procedures using common metrology instruments, including gages, calipers, micrometers, vision-based systems.
     
  • Prepare inspection documents following established reporting templates.
     
  • Generate reports documenting inspection results.
     
  • Catalog and store First Article samples.
     
  • Provide status updates to internal customers, including mold tooling and process engineering, product managers, and design engineers.
     
  • Ensure FAI records are accurate and current.
     
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and stored.
     
  • Support internal quality audits.
     
  • Provide technical support for production measurement equipment and processes.
     
  • Assist in the development of new metrology processes and techniques.
     
  • Monitor compliance with laboratory quality system requirements.
     

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a laboratory environment.
     
  • Experience with precision injection molded components.
     
  • Technical knowledge of optical connectors and applications is a plus.
     
  • Organized with keen attention to detail.
     
  • Ability to read and understand detailed part and assembly prints.
     
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
     
  • Good communication skills and follow-through on assigned tasks.
     
  • 3D Metrology experience is a plus.
     
  • MicroVu / Vision System experience is a plus.
     
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Pro-E, or SolidWorks is a plus.
     
  • Technical degree preferred.
