Title: Secondary Art Teacher

Job Summary:	The Secondary Art Teacher at Midland Christian School is responsible for developing and implementing an engaging art curriculum for middle school students. This position requires a deep commitment to the Christian faith, a passion for teaching, and the ability to integrate faith-based principles into the art curriculum.
Lines of Authority:	Reports to the Secondary Principal
Education:	Bachelor’s Degree Required
Required Personal Qualities:	Whole-heartedly agrees with the school’s Statement of Faith and vision to Live for God, Love like Jesus, and Learn for Life Demonstrates enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self-control, perseverance, and punctuality. Embodies a Christ-like attitude in all aspects of his/her work.
Required Spiritual Development:	A baptized believer who is a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ Believes the Bible is God’s Word and the standard for faith and daily living Models Christ-likeness in attitude, speech, and actions toward others Active member of a Christ-centered community of faith Reflects the vision of the school in all aspects of work and interactions Maintains a professional and modest Christian appearance in accordance with school policies
Required Qualifications:	Current Teaching Certification Strong commitment to Christian faith and principles High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications:	Previous experience as a teacher. Strong knowledge of art history, various art forms, and contemporary art trends. Proficiency in teaching fundamental artistic techniques and skills.

Transportation:	Reliable transportation.
Physical and Mental Effort:	Teachers may spend long hours standing, walking around the classroom, and carrying materials. Additionally, they may need to participate in activities such as recess supervision or field trips. Teaching often involves emotional labor, as educators invest their emotions in supporting students, dealing with challenges, and celebrating successes. This can be both rewarding and draining, requiring mental resilience and self-care strategies.

Hours:	This is a full-time, self-contained position

Essential Functions
Essential functions of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following functions. Other duties may be assigned.

Curriculum Development:

Develop and implement art lessons that align with the school’s faith-based mission and academic objectives.
Plan engaging lessons that accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
Design art projects that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-expression
Integrate Bible stories, faith-based values, and character education into lessons

Classroom Management:

Establish a positive and inclusive learning environment
Encourage students to express their faith and creativity
Foster collaboration and teamwork among students

Instruction and Assessment:

Teach fundamental artistic skills, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media
Introduce students to various art styles, artists, and art history, incorporating faith-based themes when applicable
Provide constructive feedback to support academic and spiritual growth
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students

Spiritual Development

Model Christ-like behavior and values through actions and interactions with students. Exemplary behavior and character consistent with Christian values, serving as a positive role model for students both inside and outside the classroom.
Facilitate opportunities for students to explore and deepen their faith.

Parent Communication and Collaboration:

. Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities
Collaborate with parents/guardians to support student learning and spiritual development
Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events

Professional Development:

Engage in ongoing professional growth to stay updated on best practices in art education and faith-based instruction
Incorporate innovative teaching strategies into instruction

Professional Responsibilities:

Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and staff to create a supportive school community
Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school events as required
Maintain punctuality and regular attendance

Other duties may be assigned as needed.
