Job Description - Middle School Counselor (Full-Time)

Description

Rooted in our Catholic faith and inspired by the multiple talents of our namesake, Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School prepares students to be strong in mind, body, character, and spirit—discovering their God-given talents and using them to serve both the community. We seek a compassionate, mission-driven Middle School Counselor to join our 6–12 grade community. This full-time position supports the social, emotional, and academic development of students in grades 6–8, helping them grow into confident and resilient young people.

The ideal candidate is a warm and approachable professional who brings both clinical knowledge and a heart for service. This individual will work closely with students, families, faculty, and administrators to cultivate a supportive, welcoming, and faith-filled school culture that reflects our commitment to whole-person development.

We value faculty and staff who embrace our vision—educators who are not only excellent in their field, but who also engage actively in the life of the school through mentoring, collaboration, and community-building. Our ideal candidate will desire to:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to support students’ emotional well-being, academic progress, and personal growth.
  • Assist students in developing strong coping skills, conflict resolution strategies, and healthy peer relationships.
  • Guide students through academic goal-setting and problem-solving as they transition through middle school.
  • Support students facing personal, social, or behavioral challenges, while collaborating with families and outside professionals when appropriate.
  • Serve as a key liaison between students, parents, and teachers to promote student success and well-being.
  • Collaborate with the high school counseling team to ensure a smooth transition to 9th grade.
  • Deliver age-appropriate programming on topics such as digital citizenship, mental health awareness, and values-based decision-making.
  • Participate in the life of the school, including liturgies, retreats, community events, and service initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with school policies and best practices.
  • Coordinate and administer testing for middle school students and collaborate with the academic office to measure progress.
  • Contribute to the student achievement and growth by being part of the Student Support Team

Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School boasts an elite faculty and staff who approach their work as a vocation, putting the needs of each student first with an optimistic, growth-mindset vision. We seek a candidate whose passion for student support and formation equips students not only to succeed academically, but to flourish emotionally and spiritually.

We welcome faculty, students, and families of diverse faiths and backgrounds at Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School. We encourage all interested candidates to apply by uploading the following supporting documents. If you have questions, please email Jennifer Dye, Principal ([email protected]):
