Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
● Design and lead engaging and challenging practices that promote physical endurance, mental toughness, and emotional well-being.
● Foster a team culture of crew, rooted in mutual respect, collaboration, and a growth mindset.
● Promote sportsmanship and healthy competition, ensuring every athlete understands the value of effort, discipline, and teamwork.
● Inspire athletes to pursue excellence through goal setting, accountability, and reflective practice.
● Encourage participation and inclusivity, creating a supportive space for runners of all levels.
● Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, and school staff.
● Ensure the safety and well-being of all team members during practices and meets.
● Model and uphold the values of Renaissance Secondary School, including leadership, integrity, and community engagement.
Required Qualifications
Education:
● High School Diploma, Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Preferred skills and work experience:
● Previous coaching or competitive cross country experience
● A deep understanding of adolescent development and a commitment to student growth
● Strong communication and organizational skills
● CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
● A positive attitude, high energy, and a passion for developing student-athletes
Physical demands:
The physical demands of the Cross Country Coach position require the ability to stand, walk, jog, or run for extended periods during practices and meets. The coach must be capable of demonstrating running form and conditioning drills, as well as frequently bending, squatting, reaching, and stretching. The position also involves the ability to lift and carry equipment, such as water coolers, cones, and first aid kits, up to 25 pounds. Coaches should be prepared to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain. Additionally, the coach must be able to monitor and supervise student-athletes across various terrains, such as tracks, trails, and fields, and must have the visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents
and act swiftly in emergencies.
Schedule Details
Job Classifications: Exempt, Seasonal (Mid-July through October)
Part-time hours, with practices and meets typically held outside of school hours.
Salary Details
Stipend range: $1000 - $1250
