Job Description - Middle School English Teacher

Description

Job Goal

The Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality, Christ-centered instruction that supports the academic, spiritual, social, and emotional growth of students. The Teacher integrates biblical worldview principles into all subject areas while maintaining high academic standards aligned with school expectations and Florida requirements.

Reporting Relationship

The Teacher reports directly to the designated Principal.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Instruction and Curriculum
  • Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons that meet course objectives and school standards.
  • Integrate biblical worldview and Christian values into daily instruction and interactions.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Assess student learning regularly and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate lesson plans, grades, and student records.
  • Classroom Management
  • Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and orderly classroom environment.
  • Enforce school policies, procedures, and discipline standards in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Encourage student responsibility, respect, and Christ-like behavior.
  • Student Support
  • Support the academic, spiritual, and emotional development of students.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and meetings as required.
  • Interpret and use data for diagnosis, instructional planning, and program evaluation to meet the needs of each student. 
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies appropriate for teaching students.
  • Use appropriate techniques and strategies to enhance the application of critical, creative, and evaluative thinking capabilities of students.  
  • Provide a positive, Christian atmosphere in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.  
  • Recognize overt indicators of student distress or abuse and take appropriate intervention, referral, or reporting actions.  
  • Professional Responsibilities
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional development, chapel services, and school events.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve instruction and school programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Comply with all school policies, procedures, and Florida education requirements.
  • Serve as a Christian role model in speech, actions, and lifestyle.
  • Assist in preparing for changing curriculum needs and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and maintain effective and efficient record keeping.
  • Conduct a personal assessment periodically to determine professional development needs with reference to specific instructional assignments.  
  • Support school improvement initiatives by active participation in school activities, services and program.  
  • Perform other incidental tasks consistent with eh goals and objectives of the position and school. 

Terms of Employment

  • Position may be full-time or part-time, as determined by the school.
  • Employment is based on a one year agreement 
  • Salary and benefits are established by the school and are commensurate with education, certification, and experience.
  • Employment is at-will, consistent with applicable Florida law.

Evaluation

  • The Teacher’s performance will be evaluated by the Principal or designated administrator.
  • Evaluations may include classroom observations, review of lesson plans and student outcomes, professional conduct, participation/ engagement in school-wide activities and adherence to the school’s mission and Statement of Faith.
  • Formal evaluations are conducted at least annually, with ongoing feedback provided throughout the school year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (education or subject-area degree preferred but not required).
  • Valid Florida Department of Education (FDOE) teaching certificate or eligibility and commitment to obtain/maintain certification as required by the school.
  • A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and agreement with the school’s Statement of Faith.
  • Ability to integrate biblical principles into classroom instruction and school life.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional strategies and classroom management practices.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with administration, faculty, parents, and students.
  • Successful completion of background screening and fingerprinting as required by Florida law.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move about the classroom for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or move instructional materials and supplies (up to approximately 25 pounds).
  • Ability to use standard classroom and office equipment (computer, projector, copier, etc.).
  • Ability to see, hear, and speak clearly to effectively supervise and instruct students.
  • Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting.
  • Ability to travel outside of the school for professional development or other activities as needed.
