Job Description - Middle School History Teacher & Advisor

Trevor Day School is seeking candidates for a full-time Middle School History Teacher and Advisor for the 2026-27 academic year. Responsibilities include planning and teaching 8th-grade history, with an emphasis on making U.S. and global history engaging and accessible to middle school learners through inquiry-based, discussion-driven pedagogy. The teacher will cultivate a supportive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and student engagement.

The role also involves serving as an advisor to a group of approximately ten 8th-grade students. Advisors meet with each student once per cycle, serve as the primary school contact for their families, and hold family conferences twice a year. Candidates should have a strong interest in working with a diverse student body and colleagues in an open and collaborative environment.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Three or more years of experience teaching U.S. and/or global history.

  • Passion for historical inquiry.

  • Capacity to design engaging lessons centered on primary and secondary source analysis that challenge and inspire students.

  • Success in helping students develop evidence-based arguments.

  • Experience using varied methods of assessment and providing effective written feedback.

  • Comfort with differentiating instruction to accommodate a range of learning styles.

  • Enthusiasm for collaborating with colleagues on curriculum development.

  • Proficiency in using technology to enhance classroom learning.

  • Familiarity with AI as a teaching and learning tool.

  • Competence in designing authentic assessments that encourage original student voice and ensure academic integrity.

  • Proven ability to form strong, professional relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • A growth mindset and lifelong dedication to learning.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Flexibility, creativity, patience, and a sense of humor.

The full-time salary range for this position is $60,000 - $110,000 as per the school’s salary scale. When extending an offer for employment, Trevor Day School bases the salary upon several factors that include (but are not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education, training, key skills, and peer salary equity. The school also offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
