Position Title: Middle School Social Worker

Job Description:

The primary objective of the Middle School Social Worker position at Capital Village is to provide behavioral services to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) through individual and group counseling sessions, and to lead the implementation of the school's Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program.

Responsibilities:

Behavioral Services:

  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students with IEPs, addressing behavioral and emotional needs in alignment with their individualized plans.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school personnel to develop and implement effective strategies to support students' social-emotional development and behavioral goals.
  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify students' strengths, challenges, and areas for growth in behavior and emotional regulation.
  • Develop and implement intervention plans to support students in achieving their social-emotional and behavioral objectives.

SEL Program Leadership:

  • Lead the implementation of the school's Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program, designing and facilitating activities to promote positive social-emotional development among all students.
  • Collaborate with staff to integrate SEL principles into the school's curriculum and daily routines, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Provide training and professional development opportunities for teachers and staff on SEL strategies and best practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the SEL program, making adjustments as needed to meet the evolving needs of students and the school community.

Student Support:

  • Lead the Student Support team, collaborating with school leadership to advocate for students' needs and provide guidance for school staff.
  • Serve as a liaison for MKV and CFSA, facilitating communication and support between these organizations and Capital Village.
  • Support in monitoring attendance, meeting attendance goals, and reducing truancy through scheduling attendance meetings, facilitating attendance incentives, etc.
  • Fulfill other school priorities as assigned.

High School Transition:

  • Prepare students and families for the transition to high school, providing guidance on high school options, application procedures, and readiness for the transition.
  • Establish connections with high school admissions staff to offer information, events, and support for the high school admissions process.
  • Coordinate high school fairs and facilitate student attendance at high school informational sessions and events.
  • Support the planning and coordination of programs such as career and college fairs, college field trips, and community meetings focused on goal-setting and college/career awareness.

Abilities, Knowledge, and Mindset You Bring to Capital Village:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work (LCSW required) or a related social science/human services field.
  • Meet DC school social work licensure standards.
  • Possess at least three years of work experience with diverse youth, preferably at the middle school level.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of best practices in culturally-competent social work, data analysis, social-emotional learning, and restorative justice practices.
  • Have a track record of success in increasing student achievement.
  • Exhibit an entrepreneurial and continuous improvement mindset, with the drive, passion to innovate, and tolerance of ambiguity required for a school startup environment.
  • Hold a belief in creating an inclusive, engaging, and supportive environment for staff, families, and students, with a deep commitment to equity and anti-bias/anti-racist education.

Standout Candidates May Also Bring:

  • General knowledge of or experience in EL Education and personalized learning.
  • Leadership experience that includes coaching and/or supervising a team.
  • Proficiency in more than one language, with English/Spanish bilingualism preferred.
