Employee Classification: Exempt

Daily Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:30-4:30 (1 hour break)

Job Description- Middle School Lead

The Montessori Academy of Colorado is seeking a Middle School Teacher to guide an evolving, mixed-age program centered on student agency and excellence. This role offers the creative freedom to adapt lessons to individual student passions and integrate academic studies with the outside world via the Purpose-Driven Learning approach. You will lead students through an innovative academic framework defined by two 'great journeys': the internal exploration of character and the external connection to the global landscape. Our unique middle school experience rests on the following pillars:

Diverse Community. At MAC, we strive to ensure that every child, regardless of race or socioeconomic status, feels seen and heard. We know that the two journeys are possible only when children feel safe to be who they are and have a fearless, forward mindset.

Social and Emotional Learning. At the heart of our program is an effort to help each child learn to be present in the moment, understand and regulate emotions, empathize with others, discover unique gifts, and ultimately learn to follow meaning in learning and life.

City as Our Campus. MAC is proud to be part of, not apart from, the community. During the MAC school day, students venture off-campus to work with community partners. We believe that learning in the midst of a busy, thriving city is one of our biggest strengths. We work with real people on real problems and measure the impact we have on our surrounding community.

Kids as Learning Architects. We believe children have the innate ability to guide their own learning and construct knowledge for themselves. This process works best when students have trusting relationships with their teachers and what we call “voice and choice” in their learning. We work with each child to develop a personalized learning plan.

World-Class Teachers. Our number one priority as a school is to attract, retain, and develop the best teachers in the city. Our teachers bring their full humanity to school in order to help students explore who they are and how they connect to the world.

We are looking for a teacher who has a passion for working with the middle school age group. In addition to outstanding teaching ability, we seek a teacher who is inquisitive, self-directed, team-oriented, and dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate commitment to MAC’s mission and core values

  • Cultivate students’ curiosity, engagement, growth, and performance in academic, intellectual, social, and emotional domains

  • Strong instructional pedagogy, a habit and practice of continual personal and professional growth, and both curiosity and expertise in the content to be taught

  • Take a student-centered approach by providing responsive instruction, including differentiation and flexibility to adjust plans when needed

  • Collaborate with middle school colleagues and Upper School Director and seek feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement

  • Curate and implement a differentiated and globally integrated curriculum that includes student engagement through project-based learning, hands-on activities, experimentation and iteration, and other active approaches to learning

  • Design and deliver instruction using progressive methodology that aligns with Colorado Academic Standards and established grade-level benchmarks.

  • Partner and communicate effectively with the parents, discussing the progress of their children via day-to-day interactions, class email updates, data-driven written reports, and conferences

  • Co-plan with the elementary team to create cohesive programming at MAC

  • Embrace continuous learning by utilizing professional development support days to enrich practice

  • Embody the MAC Characteristics of Excellence daily

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years teaching experience

  • Bachelor’s degree; Middle School teaching experience preferred

  • Subject matter expertise in English, History or Humanities

  • Experience with project-based learning

  • Self-motivated and charismatic

  • Strategic, flexible, and creative thinker

  • Ability to create strong relationships with students and their families

  • Excellent verbal communication skills

  • Willingness to submit to a background check

  • Ability to commit to the position for a minimum of three years

MAC is committed to caring for and investing in our employees by offering a generous benefits package, including the potential for paid Montessori training, 24 paid holidays annually, paid summer break, 8 Paid Time Off days, 3 Paid Professional Development days, health, dental, and vision insurance with an HSA option, a 403(b) retirement plan with employer match, employer-paid life insurance, and additional voluntary plans for life insurance, critical illness, and short- and long-term disability plans. Employees also receive an RTD EcoPass.

MAC is committed to providing a diverse and inclusive environment, free of discrimination or harassment, for its community. MAC does not discriminate based on race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, national origin, immigration/citizen status, age, marital status, pregnancy status, veteran status, disability, socio-economic status, political affiliation, or any other non-merit factor. Any person with a concern or allegation of discrimination or harassment shall report it to MAC’s Compliance Coordinator. More information is available on our website.
