REPORTS TO/TERM:

Administrative Staff and GEO Foundation

This is a full-time, 10-months position

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

 A Guidance Counselor is required to perform the following duties:

• Middle School, High School and College scheduling
• Onboard new students
• Maintain accurate and complete student records as required
• Assist students in the areas of academic, career and social/emotional development
• Determine academic needs
• Graduation planning & goal setting
• Monitor graduation requirements for all grades
• Assists with Knowledge Assessment
• Works directly with the College & Career Coordinator
• Handles sensitive student information and assesses students' needs
• Consult and collaborate with teachers, staff and parents in understanding and meeting the needs of students in the school setting
• Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students
• Communicate and collaborate with teachers and school administrators
• Assist School Leadership in developing post-secondary programs
• Adhere to ethical standards of the state and national school counselor associations
• Make appropriate referrals to students and parents to outside agencies
• Determine social/emotional needs of student population
• Conduct goal-oriented counseling sessions in response to identified needs of students. Sessions include: skill building, social skill development, career awareness, conflict resolution, etc.
• Provide crisis intervention when difficult situations occur
• Participate in staff development opportunities
• Attend all required staff meetings
• Dress professionally and uphold all school policies
• Perform other duties, as deemed appropriate, by the principal

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Indiana School Counselor License
• Master’s Degree in School Counseling
• Commitment to the mission and organizational goals of 21st Century Charter School
• Two or more years of successful Guidance Counseling as demonstrated by annual performance evaluations
• Experience in reviewing student transcripts, scheduling & graduation requirements
