Job Description - Mid-level Accountant

Job Summary


We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant with a strong background in the manufacturing and trading sectors. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, monitoring inventory-related transactions, ensuring statutory compliance, and preparing timely financial reports. The candidate should have a sound understanding of manufacturing cost accounting, inventory management, and trading operations.


Key Responsibilities Financial Accounting



  • Maintain accurate books of accounts in accordance with accounting standards and company policies.

  • Record and verify daily financial transactions, including receipts, payments, journal entries, and bank transactions.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.

  • Perform month-end and year-end closing activities.

  • Reconcile bank accounts, supplier accounts, customer accounts, and general ledger balances.


Manufacturing & Cost Accounting



  • Monitor production costs, raw material consumption, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods inventory.

  • Assist in preparing product costing and cost analysis reports.

  • Analyze manufacturing variances and recommend cost control measures.

  • Coordinate with production and warehouse teams to ensure accurate inventory valuation.

  • Support periodic stock counts and inventory reconciliation.


Trading Operations



  • Record purchase and sales transactions accurately.

  • Verify supplier invoices, purchase orders, and delivery notes.

  • Monitor receivables and payables and ensure timely settlements.

  • Prepare customer invoices and maintain proper documentation.

  • Track inventory movement across warehouses and distribution channels.


Taxation & Compliance



  • Prepare and file VAT returns and other statutory tax reports as required.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations and accounting standards.

  • Assist during internal and external audits by providing required documentation.

  • Maintain proper financial records for regulatory compliance.


Budgeting & Financial Analysis



  • Assist in preparing annual budgets and financial forecasts.

  • Analyze financial performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.

  • Prepare management reports with key financial insights.

  • Monitor expenses and recommend cost-saving initiatives.


Internal Controls



  • Ensure adherence to internal financial controls and company policies.

  • Maintain proper documentation and filing of financial records.

  • Identify accounting discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.

  • Support continuous improvement of accounting processes.


Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Professional certifications such as ACCA, CA, CPA, or equivalent will be an added advantage.

  • Minimum 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing and trading industries.


Required Skills



  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles and standards.

  • Experience in manufacturing cost accounting and inventory accounting.

  • Sound understanding of trading operations and inventory management.

  • Proficiency in accounting software (Tally, ERP systems, SAP, Oracle, or equivalent).

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, PivotTables, and financial reporting.

  • Knowledge of VAT, taxation, and statutory compliance.

  • Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet reporting deadlines.


Preferred Competencies



  • Experience with ERP systems in manufacturing or trading environments.

  • Knowledge of inventory costing methods (FIFO, Weighted Average, etc.).

  • Experience preparing audit schedules and supporting external audits.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with production, procurement, warehouse, and sales teams.


Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)



  • Accuracy and timeliness of monthly financial reporting.

  • Successful completion of month-end and year-end closing.

  • Accuracy of inventory valuation and reconciliation.

  • Timely filing of VAT and statutory returns.

  • Reduction in accounting discrepancies and audit findings.

  • Effective management of receivables and payables.

  • Compliance with internal controls and financial policies.

  • Contribution to cost control and process improvement initiatives.
