Position Summary:


The Mill & Mixing Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining equipment used to process and prepare rubber compounds for hose production. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the quality, consistency, and traceability of rubber materials used in the manufacturing of industrial, agricultural, and specialty hoses. The Mill Room Operator must follow detailed formulations, operate mills and related equipment safely, and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Schedule:

  • Monday through Thursday, 5:00am - 3:30pm. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follow precise formulations to weigh, measure, and prepare raw rubber, chemicals, and additives for processing.
  • Operate two-roll mills, batch-off equipment, and other mill room machinery according to established procedures.
  • Feed and guide rubber stock through the mill to achieve the correct blend, sheet thickness, and consistency.
  • Monitor processing times, temperatures, and equipment performance to ensure product meets specifications.
  • Label and document each batch with accurate lot numbers, batch numbers, and ingredient information.
  • Inspect materials for contamination, foreign substances, or quality defects before, during, and after processing.
  • Perform basic quality checks, such as visual inspections, durometer readings, or weight verification.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the mill room, including scheduled cleaning of equipment and floors.
  • Record all production data, material usage, and process deviations clearly and accurately.
  • Stage and store finished rubber sheets or compound in designated areas for efficient workflow.
  • Assist in material movement and storage using forklifts, hoists, or manual handling as needed.
  • Cross-train in other mill room functions to support flexibility and coverage within the department.
  • Work closely with production planners, quality control, and other departments to meet daily production goals.
  • Follow all plant safety protocols, including PPE usage, chemical handling procedures, and Lockout/Tagout requirements.
  • Promptly report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or material shortages to a supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of Manufacuring and production. 
  • Ability to read and follow batch formulas, work orders, and safety data sheets (SDS).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
  • Familiarity with measuring tools, scales, and safe material handling.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, working in hot environments, and performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing setting with exposure to heat, rubber dust, chemical odors, and noise.
  • Frequent standing, lifting, bending, and handling of heavy bags or rolls of material.
  • PPE (gloves, respirator, safety glasses, hearing protection) required in designated areas.
