Job Description - Mill Room / Receiving Supervisor

Position Summary: 

The Mill Room / Receiving Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the mill room (rubber mixing and prep) and raw material receiving functions. This position plays a critical leadership role in ensuring accurate inventory handling, timely material preparation, and compliance with safety and quality standards. The Supervisor will lead a team of material handlers, mill operators, and receiving personnel to support the custom production of high-performance rubber hoses for the agriculture, aerospace, and oil and gas industries. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Supervisory & Leadership Duties: 

  • Provide daily direction, support, and oversight to mill room and receiving department employees. 
  • Plan and coordinate workloads, shift schedules, and labor resources to meet production demands. 
  • Monitor employee performance, conduct evaluations, and support training and development initiatives. 
  • Foster a safe, clean, and efficient work environment aligned with company values and policies. 
  • Other Duties as assigned.  

Mill Room Operations: 

  • Oversee the mixing, weighing, and preparation of rubber compounds according to production requirements. 
  • Ensure mill room processes meet quality, batch accuracy, and safety standards. 
  • Troubleshoot issues with material consistency, batch timing, or equipment with production and maintenance teams. 

Receiving & Inventory Control: 

  • Supervise the unloading, inspection, and documentation of incoming raw materials, chemicals, and supplies. 
  • Verify materials match packing slips and purchase orders; coordinate with Purchasing and Quality for any discrepancies. 
  • Maintain accurate inventory records in ERP systems and ensure proper material labeling and storage. 

Compliance & Safety: 

  • Enforce OSHA, company, and environmental safety standards, especially around chemical handling and heavy equipment. 
  • Ensure proper PPE use, spill response procedures, and hazard communication within both areas. 
  • Lead or participate in safety meetings, audits, and continuous improvement efforts. 

Collaboration & Reporting: 

  • Work cross-functionally with Production, Quality, and Logistics to ensure material readiness for custom hose builds. 
  • Generate and present reports on department performance, material flow, downtime, and labor utilization. 
  • Participate in department planning, budgeting, and improvement initiatives. 

Qualifications: 

  • Education:
    High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, logistics, or operations preferred. 
  • Experience: 
  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting, preferably in rubber, chemical, or material prep. 
  • Strong background in receiving, inventory systems, or mill room/mixing operations. 
  • Prior experience in aerospace, oil & gas, or custom product manufacturing is a plus. 
  • Skills & Competencies: 
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills. 
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, inventory tracking, and production scheduling tools. 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, mixers, etc.). 
  • Solid understanding of safety protocols for hazardous materials and equipment operation. 
  • Effective communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. 

Physical & Work Environment Requirements: 

  • Frequent walking, standing, and lifting (up to 50 lbs). 
  • Exposure to noise, dust, heat, and chemicals in manufacturing and warehouse areas. 
  • Use of PPE such as gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots is required.
