We are seeking a dependable and skilled Milling Crew Equipment Operator to support road construction and milling operations by operating a variety of equipment, including sweepers, rollers, skid steers, and other support machinery. This role plays a key part in ensuring site cleanliness, surface prep, compaction, and overall project efficiency. Ideal candidates will have experience on a milling crew, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to job site safety and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
Operate a variety of equipment including milling machines, sweepers, rollers, and skid steers to support milling and surface preparation operations.
Monitor milling depth, adjust equipment settings, and ensure smooth, precise cuts that meet project specifications.
Assess job sites, identify obstacles, and assist with planning milling patterns to optimize safety and efficiency.
Coordinate with project managers, site supervisors, and trucking teams to maintain a steady workflow and minimize downtime.
Perform daily equipment inspections and minor maintenance; report mechanical issues promptly.
Maintain cleanliness and order on the job site using sweepers and general labor as needed.
Follow and enforce OSHA, DOT, and company safety protocols; participate in safety briefings.
Provide guidance and support to other crew members; assist in mentoring new operators.
Assist with material movement and loading/unloading using skid steer or other equipment.
Keep accurate logs of work performed, equipment usage, and any safety or maintenance issues.
Participate in pre- and post-job inspections and assist with job site setup and cleanup.
Communicate effectively with the crew and supervisor to ensure clear understanding of tasks.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support milling or general paving operations.
Education/Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
One to three years related experience and/or training in road construction
CDL A license with tanker endorsement preferred; willing to train.
Prior experience on a milling or asphalt paving crew is a plus.
Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
Ability to work extended hours, nights, and Saturdays.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction and paving and can use such tools properly and safely.
Ability to read, write, and accurately perform basic mathematical functions, including adding, subtracting, multiplication and division.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Must possess knowledge of Company policies and procedures, including safety.
Must consistently produce an efficient, accurate work product.
Understanding of milling machine operation, road construction processes, and material removal techniques.
Work Requirements
Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
Must pass post-offer employment drug screen, medical exams, physicals, background check, and motor vehicle record (MVR) review.
Must pass D.O.T. required physical if candidate has a CDL.
Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers and/or supervisors with other duties as required.
Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.

Must be able to exert up to 10-20 lbs constantly to move objects, 25-50 lbs of force frequently and 50-100 lbs of force occasionally.
Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Able to work in all weather conditions.

Work schedule is Monday through Friday with weekend and some holiday and evening work required. Generally, 60+ hours per week.
