Missions & Outreach Director

Job Description - Missions & Outreach Director

Director of Missions & Outreach

Reports to: Mike Bajalia, Pastor of Ministry    |    Department: Ministry    |    Status: Full-time, Exempt

Role Summary

At Evangel Temple, we exist to help people Encounter Jesus, Build Disciples, Discover Purpose, and Make a Difference. The Director of Missions & Outreach exists to extend that mission beyond our walls — locally and globally — by mobilizing our church to send, host, serve, and shape a generation of Christ-followers who live with global awareness and missional courage.

This is a pastoral leadership role. The Director will steward Evangel's relationships with 170+ supported missionaries and ministries, lead our short-term missions program, oversee our local outreach efforts and Missions Café, and drive a culture of missions throughout the lifeflow of the church. They will also help us build a pipeline of future senders and goers raised up from within Evangel.

The Director will report to Mike Bajalia (Pastor of Ministry) and steward an annual missions and outreach budget.

Primary Areas of Ownership

1. Global Missions & Short-Term Trips

  • Plan, coordinate, and lead Evangel's annual short-term missions trips, partnering with department leaders across the church.

  • Write trip profiles, set dates and pricing, build and communicate trip details, and post information to Evangel's web and communication channels.

  • Develop relationships with trip contacts and field partners; introduce them to Evangel trip leaders.

  • Lead pre-trip informational meetings and ensure every team is prepared physically, logistically, and spiritually before departure.

  • Provide on-the-ground leadership for select trips each year.

  • Steward all accounting, reconciliation, and financial reporting for missions trips.

2. Missionary & Ministry Partner Care

  • Serve as Evangel's primary point of relational connection with our 170+ supported missionaries and ministries across eight global regions.

  • Host 1–2 missionaries or ministry partners per month as they come through Jacksonville — coordinating logistics, hospitality, and meaningful interaction with church staff and congregation.

  • Provide pastoral care to missionaries serving in challenging fields; respond to needs, requests, and crises with discernment.

  • Maintain accurate records of missionary status, prayer needs, support levels, and ministry updates.

  • Equip Evangel staff and congregation to engage meaningfully with our global partners.

3. Local Outreach

  • Lead Evangel's local outreach strategy — including Mission of Hope outreaches and other community-facing initiatives.

  • Build, train, and release volunteer teams to serve in local outreach contexts.

  • Coordinate with Evangel's Dream Team and other ministry departments to ensure outreach efforts are well-staffed and aligned with the broader church calendar.

  • Develop systems for need intake, donation intake, and follow-up care for those served.

4. Missions Culture & Future Pipeline

  • Help shape and drive missions culture throughout the lifeflow of Evangel — in services, communications, discipleship pathways, and church-wide moments.

  • Build a pipeline for raising up future missionaries and ministry workers from within Evangel.

  • Partner with the pastoral team to identify, develop, and commission those whom God is calling to global or local ministry.

  • Champion missions in the broader church conversation; ensure global awareness shows up consistently in how Evangel speaks, prays, and gives.

5. Stewardship & Administration

  • Participate in annual budget development for the missions and outreach portfolio; ensure adequate funds for operations and adherence to approved budgets throughout the year.

  • Maintain monitoring systems to detect operational or financial issues early and initiate appropriate interventions.

  • Ensure compliance with Evangel policies and procedures across all outreach activity.

  • Respond to leadership with urgent issues as they arise; respond to emails and phone calls within a 24-hour window during the workweek.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Pastor of Ministry.

Qualifications

  • A clear personal calling to ministry, with particular passion for missions and outreach.

  • 3–5 years of ministry experience, with at least some leadership or project-management responsibility.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead volunteer teams and develop other leaders.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Proven capacity to create, analyze, and manage operating budgets.

  • Exceptional organization, time management, and follow-through; able to advance multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.

  • Sound judgment with the ability to act independently while maintaining appropriate professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

  • Proficiency with standard productivity tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) and capacity to learn church-specific platforms (Planning Center, BambooHR, Ramp, etc.).

  • Outstanding Christian character; a life that aligns with Evangel's statement of faith and lifestyle expectations.

Preferred

  • Prior cross-cultural ministry or short-term missions leadership experience.

  • Experience working with international ministry partners or supported missionaries.

  • Background in event planning, hospitality, or operations leadership at a church of similar or larger size.

  • Familiarity with Assemblies of God doctrine, polity, and missions framework.

Personal Characteristics

  • Pastoral instincts — sees people, not just projects.

  • High attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture.

  • Calm under pressure; able to advance multiple simultaneous high-priority projects.

  • Creative, collaborative, and energized by working across departments.

  • Self-motivated; able to make sound independent decisions.

  • Hospitable — genuinely energized by hosting and caring for missionaries and guests.

  • Globally curious — reads, learns, and engages with what God is doing around the world.

  • A deep enthusiasm for and commitment to the mission and vision of Evangel Temple.

  • Cross-functional partners: Jennifer Hidalgo (Worship/Creative), Shawn Kisser (Operations), and ministry directors across departments

  • Team development: Volunteers across short-term trips, Missions Café, and local outreach teams
