Job Description - MK 41 Vertical Launching System Certified SMT

SCMI1 has an opportunity for an Engineering Technician position focused on the MK 41 Vertical Launching System working as part of our team supporting the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) C290 Surface Combat Systems (Weapons) Division, C295 Vertical Launching System Branch, providing engineering and technical support services on U.S. Naval Ships in port and underway at U.S. Naval facilities and shipyards. This position must be a Certified MK-41 VLS Maintenance Technician (SMT).

Location: MARMC: Naval Station Norfolk - Norfolk, VA 23511

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Provide onsite support to conduct specified engineering/technical evaluations, perform equipment functional checks, perform troubleshooting/test/analysis and equipment repair to correct MK 41 Vertical Launching System (VLS) faults, perform system maintenance, and installations.
Experienced with VLS documentation such as VLS Inspections: "Launcher Certification Inspection Requirements TW394-J0-ECI-010/VLS.”
Formulate and present findings, briefings, status reports, and correspondence for all stakeholders such as TYCOM, ISEA, MARMC, and Ship’s Force.
Possess comprehensive understanding of the application of the following:
Repair documentation: Cognizant ISEA issued procedures/Drawings
VLS Technical Publications: "Vertical Launching System MK 41 Mods 0/2/7/15/31" SW394-AF-MM0 Series (O and M manual).
Vertical Launching System MK 41 Mods 0/2/7/15" SW394-AF-MDB Series (NAVSEA Certified Test Director/System Maintenance Technician/VLS Advanced Technician Manual)
MK 41 Vertical Launching System Standing Instruction 86-2D, and NAVSEA Instruction 8394.2 MK 41 Launching System Safety and Design Precepts.
Perform/provide support during shipboard Combat Systems tasks including Pier Side Refurbishments, ICMP, TSRA, BMDRA, INSURV programs and Tech Assist events.
Support programmatic and liaison support of varying levels by communicating, presentation of data, conducting business, resolving scheduling and milestone date problems for the various customers.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Required education/training: Certified MK-41 VLS Maintenance Technician (SMT) – NEC V65B, or Certified VLS Test Director (TD) per MK 41 Vertical Launching System Standing Instruction 86-2D.
Candidates shall also be certified (NACE or SSPC/NBPI). VLS launcher corrosion control, critical coating surface preparation for non-skid, and paint application must be in accordance with SSPC QP-3 requirement.
At least 6 years’ experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and assessing the aforementioned VLS components, equipment, and systems.
Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain security clearance and clearing necessary background checks/assessments as required. Active high-level Security Clearance will be required, and current Security Clearance is desired.
Physical requirements for efficient navigation aboard US Navy ships includes possessing the physical stamina, strength, agility, and endurance to walk continuously for extended periods of time without experiencing significant fatigue, adequate upper and lower-body strength necessary to climb ladders, stairs, ramps, and work aloft, and agility necessary to enter/exit confined spaces (tanks, voids, and spaces/compartments with manhole access).
