Job Description - Mobile Facilities Technician

I. Position Summary


This role is a mobile technician who will perform routine maintenance of Facilities at assigned site(s). Perform daily repair functions in all facilities areas, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire safety and pest control. As needed, perform a variety of cleaning and janitorial duties to ensure our school buildings are clean, disinfected, and organized. Provide high quality customer service to all internal clients. Collaborate with other team members to provide coverage at all sites, as needed. This position will report directly to the Director and the Manager of Facilities.


II. Education & Certification Requirements


• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education.


• Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience or proven working experience in facilities maintenance Childcare and, or Healthcare preferred.


III. Experience & Training Requirements


• Basic computer knowledge and skills.


• Basic building maintenance skills, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and fire safety.


• Proficient with power tools.


• Great customer service skills.


• Effective communication skills.


• Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.


• Ability to prioritize and multitask.


• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.


• Ability to identify cleaning and chemical supplies and operate cleaning machinery.


• Able to work after hours, and weekends as needed. 


IV. Desired Outcomes


• High-level knowledge of Chicago Commons assets and equipment.


• A robust maintenance and repair plan for the buildings necessitates an initiative-taking approach.


• A preventive maintenance repair plan to ensure we adhere to safety and building codes across all critical areas essential for ensuring longevity, safety, and efficiency.


• Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures to efficiently direct time management.


• Endeavor to always maintain safe, compliant, and comfortable facilities.


V. Essential Job Requirements & Duties


• Conduct daily walk through internal and external buildings including the playground to ensure safety and compliance.


• Complete facilities check list and fill in the compliance logs.


• Janitorial and housekeeping duties are required to keep the buildings and the surrounding areas of the building clean and safe.


• Will be required to fill in for the janitorial staff and provide backup when necessary.


• Monitor the proper functioning of all equipment used at the site.


• Ensure all tools and equipment are safely stored and organized.


• Participate in special facility projects for special events.


• Works with the Site Director and Director of Facilities in planning and executing ongoing building maintenance.


• Set up and take down equipment as needed for meetings or special events.


• Pick up and deliver items and equipment as needed.


• Perform monthly visual inspections and maintenance on fire extinguishers, exit signs and lights, ensuring all are in good working conditions.


• Sealing entry and exit points to reduce pest control services.


• Report any repairs needed to the Facilities Manager


• Share input and ideas with the Director of Facilities and the Facilities Manager in planning and executing ongoing maintenance.


• Perform special tasks or assignments that comply with the maintenance of the facilities upon request.


• Perform electrical work up to 220 volts, carpentry, plumbing, HVCA and fire safety.


• Other duties as assigned.


Physical Requirements:


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform. The employee must regularly operate a word-processing system and therefore must be able to read, produce, and transmit data on such a system. The employee is frequently required to stand for extended periods of time. The employee will be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds during the workday. The employee must be able to work at all CCA locations as needed. The employee will be required to travel to other sites to perform work assignments upon request.
