POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mohs Histotech will play a critical role in providing high-quality histotechnical services for Mohs micrographic surgery, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and quality control in the processing of tissue specimens.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare and cut horizontal and vertical frozen sections using the Mohs technique.
• Maintain and operate histology laboratory equipment, including the cryostat.
• Process, embed, and stain tissue specimens accurately following established protocol.
• Map and analyze tissue specimens as outlined in the applicable CLIA guidelines.
• Prepare slides for review by the surgeon, ensuring the highest quality for diagnosis.
• Monitor and maintain quality control standards throughout the histological processing.
• Accurately document all processes and results in the Mohs database and other required logbooks.
• Ensure proper tissue disposal and adhere to safety protocols as mandated by OSHA and CLIA.
• Collaborate effectively with surgical and clinical staff to optimize patient care and operational efficiency.
• Participate in internal quality assurance programs and maintain compliance with all regulatory standards.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the laboratory and clinical operations.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent under CLIA guidelines for high complexity testing.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in Mohs histotechnology is required.
• Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Histotechnologist (HTL) is preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team environment.
